"the Navy retorted with artillery"

Cool, did the Navy send a destroyer up the Tigris? Take out a bridge or three with the 5 inchers?
Maybe it was the USMC, technically part of the Navy, but really only dependent on them for transportation, and maybe a little adult supervision now and again.

The Marines are apparantly the Navy's Army.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) If the Navy needs an army, they get an Army.

These Babelfish French translations are wonderful!
"But completed we them."...We finished them off.
"...members of the honest militia to Saddam Hussein..."...Well, they're French...;^)

"But completed we them (Iraqi combatants)." Understood I eventually but long took it. Confusing was it.

As a former marine friend of mine use to tell me, "The Navy serves as transport for the Marines".
