Marines are (grudgingly) a subsidiary of the Department of the Navy, maybe it was them.

Al-Hillah, eh? Nice of the Iraqis to name a city after Hillary Clinton.

Well, technically a Marine Expeditionary Force is part of the Navy; although, neither the Marines nor the Navy likes to think about it.

To hear the Marines tell it, the Navy is simply a transportation unit for their use and benefit . . .

I don't have a dog in THAT particular fight. My family are all Regular Army or dogface citizen-soldiers. The last (and only) Navy man was Uncle Henry, who was with Dewey at Manila Bay.

Marines operate under the Department of the Navy. If I am correct, the Marines also receive their budget via the Navy.

Cool, did the Navy send a destroyer up the Tigris? Take out a bridge or three with the 5 inchers?

Maybe it was the USMC, technically part of the Navy, but really only dependent on them for transportation, and maybe a little adult supervision now and again.

The Marines are apparantly the Navy's Army.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) If the Navy needs an army, they get an Army.

These Babelfish French translations are wonderful!

"But completed we them."...We finished them off.

"...members of the honest militia to Saddam Hussein..."...Well, they're French...;^)

A bumper sticker for sale at a local gun show read,
"The Marines are a department of the Navy...the men's department"
