Gore Defends the Dixie Chicks
Launch ^

(3/31/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks controversy continues with the trio getting some support from former Vice President Al Gore. Gore spoke to a college audience last week on the subject of fewer companies owning more media outlets, and what he sees as the increasing lack of tolerance for opposing views.
According to the Tennessean, Gore used recent attacks on the Dixie Chicks that followed anti-war comments by Natalie Maines as an example. Gore told the audience, "They were made to feel un-American and risked economic retaliation because of what was said. Our democracy has taken a hit," Gore said. "Our best protection is free and open debate."

And AL Bore, the 1st amendment has been freely execised. Criticism of the Blixie Chicks is just that. If this hurts their livelihood because they spouted off at the mouth, thats their fault. The real hypocrisy with this is that musicians often use their politics as a way to sell records. They expect it to help sales. Some people liked guys like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc., precisely because their lyrics were "anti-establishment". That's the big appeal. Its laughable when they turn around and say that its unfair to not buy their records because of their politics.

And this is supposed to help? I can't believe the DC would welcome this kind of support. If they do, then it really is over for them...

Where was Algore when:
Gay groups boycotted Anita Bryant(circ 1980)
"Pro-choice" groups boycott Dominos Pizza?
Liberal groups boycotted Dr Laura and Rush Limbaugh
The usual gang of idiots tried to keep Michael Savage off MSNBC?
Hey,what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Isnt it interesting that when Liberal Groups excercise their free speech to oppose someone's politics it's called a
"boycott", but when conservatives do it, it's a "blacklist"

"Our democracy has taken a hit."
You darn right it has, algore. The WTC and the Pentagon, you dunderhead.

Gore is completely on the wrong tact (as usual), when he claims there has not been a fair and open debate. If anything conservatives have brought a fair and open debate, while liberals have just simply been dishonest about the war for the purpose of destroying President Bush. Liberals always think there rights are being violated when people don't agree with them. The Dixie Chicks, particularly the pudgy one, did a cowardly and foolish thing by vocally taking a stance in a foreign country, that they had to have known was not a stance they shared with their conservative country fans.

It just gets better for the Dixie Chicks..first the stupid comment..then the anger..then Michael Moore mentions them as he is being booed off the Oscar stage..now Gore supports them..what next..kind words from Saddam (or what's left of him)..In time their cds will be selling 12 for a dollar..if that..

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Gore who was complaining about Rush and Hannity and O'Reilly on the radio? I know Clinton did, but I thought Gore also felt that the "conservative" talk show hosts were pushing hate or violence or something like that.

Right...and Al Gore invented the Dixie Chicks, didn't he?

Gore told the audience, "They were made to feel un-American and risked economic retaliation because of what was said. Our democracy has taken a hit,"Tell that to the orange growers that advertised on Rush's show.

Nothing like a good Al Ghore post to liven things up.
Anti-American is as Anti-American does. Don't do the crime if you can't pay the time.
Why do they call it "the RIGHT" anyways.
