[history]
A Superior Court judge yesterday rebuffed a group of lawmakers, businesses and conservative groups who wanted to intervene in what will likely be a landmark court case on the right of gay couples to marry.
Judge Linda Feinberg said the groups did not have a legal right to formally oppose a lawsuit filed against the state by seven gay couples who argue that their unions should be recognized under state law.

This judge would be more at home in a Third World banana republic where justice is meted out only for the select few.
In her sorry court, conservatives need not apply.

He said the groups arguing against same-sex marriage do not represent mainstream New Jersey. Which is palpably false, but that's the usual technique. Lie, lie, lie as big as you can until everyone gets tired and numb and gives in.

Do groups commonly "formally oppose" lawsuits? If and when they do, what is the hoped result of such an opposition? Can cases be rejected because of their opposition (before the proceedings start), or do they get to argue on behalf of their position, or what?

MARRIAGE ACTION ALERT

There were two articles today about AB 205, the homosexual marriage bill, and AB 17, which would force state contractors to fund homosexual marriage benefits. Both of these radical bills passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee on April 1 and will advance to the Appropriations Committee.
Read todays Sacramento Bee story and the Los Angeles Times story which quoted CCF Executive Director Randy Thomasson, who testified against both bills in committee.
Take Action: The Democrat majority in Sacramento needs to feel the anger of pro-marriage people whose vote may be overturned. Tell the 14 members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee how you feel, especially if you live in or near their district. Tell the committee members who voted yes on AB 205 and AB 17 how disappointed you are. Thank the members who opposed these homosexual marriage bills. Then call Governor Gray Davis.

Groups Decry U.S. Justice Department Gay-Events Banhttp://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kcsm/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=505966,
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Gay rights groups denounced on Friday a decision by the Department of Justice, headed by conservative Attorney General John Ashcroft, to ban employees' annual gay pride events, saying the move sent a chilling message to its gay workers.
DOJ Pride head Marina Colby told Reuters she was taken aback when she was informed the employee group's annual awards ceremony would not be permitted because President Bush had not officially sanctioned it.
"All we want is the same opportunity to recognize contributions to and from our community like other employee associations," she said. "We don't want special treatment, we want equal treatment."
The nonpartisan Human Rights Campaign said Ashcroft canceled the events after being lobbied by conservative groups.
"It's shameful that the federal agency that is in charge of protecting civil rights in this country is singling out one group for disparate treatment," said spokesman David Smith. "It sends a chilling message that gay employees are not a welcome part of the Justice department work force."
Justice department officials did not immediately return calls for comment.

After Feinberg she issued her ruling yesterday in Trenton, David S. Buckel, a senior staff attorney for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, a New York-based gay rights advocacy group, said: "Discrimination in marriage should end." If you want to marry your dog or your sheep, why should silly old discrimination stop you?

Gee....you mean they won't be spending our tax money (time, awards, decorations, etc.) celebrating how people have sex this year? Good. And since when did partying on our dime/time have anything to do with civil rights?
