Dead US soldier hung on public display

US Marines moved into the southern Iraqi town of Shatrah today to recover the body of a dead comrade which had been hanged in the town square, officers said.

Hundreds of troops were dispatched on the operation after intelligence reports indicated the body of a dead American, who was killed in a firefight last week, had been paraded through the streets and hanged in public.

"We would like to retrieve the body of the marine but it is not our sole purpose," said Lieutenant-Colonel Pete Owen, of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

Military sources said another part of the operation was to arm local militias to fight against members of the ruling Baath party loyal to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Shatrah is some 40 km north of Nasiriyah, where Iraqi forces have been harassing US supply lines and putting up tough resistance for more than a week.

These Iraqi's are quite a puzzlement! Remember how the Afghani's reacted to us? I heard an Iraqi tell a reporter from CNN today that he would not feel free til Saddam is dead, and when that happens, he wants the coalition to pack their bags and GET OUT OF IRAQ!!

We do need to take the restraints off our military and GET RID OF THE EMBEDDED JOURNALISTS. They are sympathetic to the Iraqis and NOT to our troops. Chances are real good they will not show this soldier whether he was strung up or laying in the street but you know they will show the van full of women and children that were shot when they refused to stop their vehicle at a check point.

As a mother of a soldier I am sick over these brave young men that are dying for the rights that these protestor pukes are abusing. My heart goes out to his family.
