Pro-Troops Rally Draws Vietnamese-American Patriots
Date: March 31, 2003 Source: KRQE News 13
Location: Albuquerque, N.M.
Hundreds of people gathered in front of Kirtland Air Force Base over the weekend to support American troops fighting in Iraq.
The event was organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and attracted more than 300 participants.
Side-by-side with American flags were a number of Vietnamese flags carried by veterans from the southern part of that country who fought along side American soldiers during the Vietnam War.
Hieu Doan one of a number of first and second generation Vietnamese-Americans attending the rally.
Doan was a ranger in the South Vietnamese army and says his son is awaiting orders to head to the Middle East after having graduate from New Mexico Military Institute.
The rally was intended to counter recent anti-war protests, which have been held outside Kirtland as well as around the University of New Mexico and downtown Albuquerque.

If all the citizens who we have given freedom to held a rally all by themselves, well the protestors would pale in comparison, shhot, they pale now, because it is only the same group repeatedly, travelling by caravan! As opposed to the many thousands across the USA supporting the Troops!

Americans of Vietnamese descent are some of THE most patriotic people I know. They are deeply appreciative of the sacrifices the United States made in their country and many fought side by side with the US in the South Vietnamese army.

I work with several Vietnamese engineers, and they are some of the most fun, most dedicated, hardworking and smartest kids I know. I have had noting but good experiences with my Viet friends.
