Excellent article! I am proud to be a FReeper. We do whine, we take action. We had one large, formal Rally for America in Kenner, LA. Now we are having informal, one hour rallies every Sunday from 4-5 P.M. FreeRepublic is being given full credit for these rallies.

Wgy promoted it big time with their 3 to 7 radio host, all last week and today some more. You are right they are not Freepers!

Our little town of Lander, Wyoming had a big rally for the troops on Saturday, organized by the local Republican Party. Hundred of cars and trucks, decked with signs and with large American flags flying high, cruised up and down main street with radios blaring patriotic tunes (courtesy of the local radio station). It was a great event, and ended with singing the National Anthem and reciting the pledge of allegiance in the high school parking lot. Even the Sheriff's deputy, assigned to traffic control, got out of his car and put his hand over his heart.
For six or eight weeks leading up to the start of the war, a small group of anti-war protesters had been meeting at a small park on Main Street every Saturday, holding up their silly signs. The weekly protests were even covered in the State's larget newspaper. That got people ticked off, because this area is very patriotic. A few weeks ago, a lone National Guardsman in uniform stood across the street from the anti-war protesters holding an American flag. The following week, about 30 oil and gas field workers held their own counter-protest. This week's rally topped them all, and the anti-war protesters were nowhere to be seen. They were probably hiding out in their staging area (the local Episcopal Church, surprise, surprise).
After Saturday, everyone knows where this town stands.

Dozens of flag-waving rallies for American troops in Iraq look like spontaneous, grass-roots gatherings. But many are orchestrated by conservative political groups, just as anti-war protests are led by peace groups and activists on the political left. They are wrong.

great quotes in the article BobJ
I was at the rally Sunday at PCH & Crenshaw it was awesome but not much media - all 4 corners of the intersection packed with people and flags everywhere - most cars etc honked their horns long and loud - the police were there and were great! 2 bagpipers showed up to play and we had Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross

Notice the cops who "guard" the Pro-America crowd? They're usually just dressed in their standard "beat cop" uniforms (and, it only takes a small contingent). Compare that to the massive showing of force, in full riot gear, necessary to keep the Hate-America rabble in check.

Ok, sheeple. Hope that fits better. PS, are you an English major? I wouldn't know a mixed metaphor if it bit me, no pun intended.

No not an English major, pretty much as far away from that as one can get.
If you do a google search for "Bad Metaphors" you can come up with some interesting stuff, sites like this one.

Well, Bro, ya done good! Bravo Zulu!
We conservatives are hugely disadvantaged in the Public Relations arena, but our message is getting out, and public opinion polls support our position despite a full court press by the LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist Bastards who would destroy America if given the opportunity.
We will pesevere! We will continue to win hearts and minds to our side, and we will bury the LIEberal/Socialist/Marxist theology in the dustbin of history, where it properly belongs.
Press on, Bro!

Free Republic registereds are not isolated at our home pcs or in our cubies making posts and threads. What we are seeing in 2003 is the natural evolution of Free Republic functioning concurrent with the local media and with GOP as friends with similar objectives.
Further, we see Free Republic registereds getting involved with their headquarters and we see GOP folks joining Free Republic. What are the chances that DEMS are joining the DU? They are coming here instead and then becoming indies or joining the GOP.
I believe that out of caution, the GOP may have initially bought the spin that we were wacky (lol), but they've witnessed our effectiveness and level headedness; the turning point being Algor's sound and legitimate defeat.
WE ARE MOPPING THE FLOORS WITH THE DEMS DURING ELECTIONS.
