[history]
March 31, 2003 -- HAVE faith in the American soldier. Have particular faith in our special operations forces, the shadow warriors who are the most effective fighting men in history.
Over the weekend, special ops troops leading Kurdish freedom fighters overran a vast terrorist base near Iraq's border with Iran.

Ralph Peters is a retired military officer who wasn't remotely tough enough or smart enough to qualify for a special operations unit. And he doesn't mind admitting it. ROTFLMAO, a great article and a great sense of humor also!

"Perhaps a thousand members of Ansar al-Islam, a group with direct ties to both al Qaeda and Saddam's regime, had pledged to resist to the death. They ran like rabbits and died like sheep. "
To scatter one's enemies and drive them before you is the greatest happiness.

Yes. Let's call this one "Mogadishu 1", as in "a Million Mogadishus for Iraq". Except US casualties were not even 19 in this action, were they? What were the casualty figures, anyway?
To: Blue_Ridge_Mtn_Geek
We killed a 1,000 of the enemy in Mogadishu before President Clinton gave the order to high tail it out of there. If he had kept his nerve we could have won a victory over Mohammed Aidid's militias, but then again its not like Clinton cared much about the military. He was more concerned with making this country look good in the face of world opinion. Thank God we have a different breed of President in the White House today. And with a nod to our boys in the field who are doing us all proud, special ops guys and whatnot, the truth is this war will end on very different terms than our Somalia fiasco. Count on it.

so tough they make steel feel like a down comforter.....
I think I knew this guy :o).... A crusty old Master Chief SEAL that was working our dive locker at Indianhead. Meanest, toughest old SOB I ever encountered that was fair and held us accountable 100% for every little error, ....our fault or not.
Stay Safe Ya'll

Somehow if they make steel feel like a down comforter then they have gotten softer since my days in BUD/S.

I thought this was a great tribute also. Peters is one of the best commentators out there right now.
