That place will be crawling with Jarheads, Dogfaces, and Snake Eaters in a few weeks, poor Petey may get himself stuffed in a bucket. If that doesn't happen maybe a class action by families of dead troops and all those who come home wounded.

...then how can any network in good conscience air the reports from Bagdad which are simply the forced statements of hostages?

It's a whole country full of hostages. Twenty four million hostages, give or take.

I just watch for the third time. It struck me as ironic that Arrrrrrnett has just facilitated the deaths of numerable Iraqi civilians, also, knowing Sadda/Baathist Party murderous ploys to sway public opinion. He asserted that the 'civilain casualties' are playing against the Bush administration! Besides encouraging Iraqis to fight on because they've' thwarted the first war plan', Peter Arnett has encouraged the regime to murder Iraqi civilians as useful disinformation for the propaganda effect. I would dearly love to see the Iraqi National Congress (government in waiting) have this prick indicted for aiding in the death of innocent Iraqis as a war crime!

Many folks posting here do not realise that Peter is a CIA operative tasked with infiltrating Saddam's inner circle.

If Saddam's people found out Peter Arnett is a CIA operative, they would put him feet first in the plastic shredder.

Peter Arnett is CIA--shred him immediately.

Thanks for the address, Joyfull...I just sent this email off to NGS:

Dear Mr. Fallon,

I find Mr. Arnett's comments detestable, anti-american and traitorous. My parents subscribed to National Geographic for over 40 years and constantly contributed to the National Geographic Society. They are probably rolling over in their graves, especially since my father was a proud veteran of the Korean War. I must report that unless & until Mr. Arnett is removed from his reporting duties in Iraq and removed from employment at your company, I will not be subscribing to your magazine, contributing any monies to your society or watching your channel on cable.

How do you think our brave men & women fighting over their feel when they here this???? (many of them are sent National Geographic magazines from home...I have seen pictures of them reading it and I have thought about sending one myself to the troops I support)

I cannot believe that this statement was allowed to be made and I would hope that he doesn't speak for your organization as a whole. If he doesn't, you need to make that perfectly clear to the troops and those in this country that you do find it detestable by firing him immediately.

I wonder if they will listen??? I hope EVERY FReeper emails them and bombards them!!!

"NBC News is standing by correspondent Peter Arnett after he gave an interview to Iraqi TV in which he said the Bush administration had misjudged "the determination of the Iraqi armed forces and the government's willingness to fight for their country."

Then By G-d I think DOD should pull ALL of NBC's embedded reporters!

If this is an example of NBC's lack concern of one of their reports giving aid and comfort to the enemy then DOD would be less than prudent not to remove ALL of them out of concern for the safety of OUR troops.

G-d only knows how many lives will now be lost because of this bastards remarks.

They pretty much summed it up as "he did it for an interview with Saddam" and laughed off the idea that he was forced.

I must have missed the part where he said, "Saddam, if you can hear me, knock twice."

So that Iraqi guy was a medium, huh. Go figger.

Everyone, don't forget that General Electric is the parent company of NBC and NG.

I listened to the apologists trying to forgive Peter's treason / sedition. Let's consider the possibilities:

  1. He had a gun to his head - obviously, the RAT congressman was grasping at the one explanation that would give Peter a pass.
  2. He felt compelled to toe the Iraqi line in order to remain in their good graces and not get expelled - but at the complete expense of any journalistic integrity (and not a good enough defense for his trial).
  3. He was saying this because it is his personal opinion, therefore he is toast.
Occam's razor says the third item, that Peter was speaking his mind on his own volition, is the most likely choice. It fits with Peter's own political leanings and is not inconsistent with his past reporting.

National Geographic needs to be put on notice, along with their corporate parents NBC and GE, that we will not tolerate their having an enemy agent on their staff. Peter's credentials should be yanked or his status should be turned into "embedded" status - embedded in the soil of Iraq.

"Arnett's behavior is treasonous, and NBC is standing by him."

A whole range of possibilities are emerging.

1) He is terminally stupid.
2) He was forced to make those remarks.
3) He is his same old self and hates this country.

Three is my pick. That said, is he a US citizen? If not, no treason rather, intemperate comments and we should cancel his US visa.

If he is a citizen, he should suffer the penalties to the fullest extent.

Then hang the MF!

Sent diatribes against Arnett to MSNBC and NBC - with the proviso that I will NOT watch either again unless, and until, Peter is fired. Not reprimanded, FIRED. It's just that simple. What isn't simple, is to try to calculate the amount of damage he's inflicted upon the U.S. around the world. Only hope that the majority of our soldiers missed his BADcast -- which they likely didn't. Treasonous jackal! Next stop, National Geographic. Pray LOTS of somebody's do the right thing when Arnett's concerned.

Arnett is a Pulitzer Prize-winner who was the only television reporter on the scene -- for CNN -- in 1991 when bombs fell on Baghdad.

i guess the other cnn reporters in the same room at the time have gotten demoted. bernie shaw, though hiding under the bed and whimpering, was in fact there.

Apparently all the Mods are dead. This is now sitting in Breaking News, many hours after it broke, and the Mods won't touch it.

Shaw retired a couple of years ago. The third reporter from that night, John Holliman, was killed in a car accident on his way in to work in Atlanta a few years back.
