Saddam's BodyGuard not with Saddam
Fox News
Posted on 03/29/2003 6:56:58 PM PST by microgood
Fox has reported twice since I have been watching that intelligence experts are perplexed by the fact that Saddam's BodyGuard that has not left his side for 15 years is not at Saddam's side, but with the Defense and Information Ministers in a Press Conference. Interesting.

His bodyguard is still with him, plastered on the wall of an underground bunker.

I saw the same report.
I'm still wondering if Saddam is playing a huge "mind game" with our intelligence forces.
He could obviously prove he was alive if he wanted to, the question is: If he is alive, does he want us to know it?
His people will believe whatever they are fed, and thus believe he is alive. But is it to his advantage to have us believe that he may be dead?

If the bodyguard is always with Saddam then it would be reasonable to expect that he was with him when the bombs hit the bunker. If he survived without an apparent scratch then it seems unlikely that it was terminal for Saddam. This doesn't explain his presence at the news conference but it should put a little doubt into the theory that Saddam is a goner.

Sadaam can't be dead he just gave the homicide bomber some medals and paid the farmers that shot down our apache a reward. Weren't those presentations broadcast live showing Sadaam rewarding his heroes? /sarcasm
To: microgood
I doubt they are perplexed;-)

I doubt this little bit of trivia would go unnoticed by the Iraqis and therefore believe it to be part of the smoke and mirrors routine of Saddam. I don't know if he is alive or dead, but if alive, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Saddam has communicated to his commanders that he is alive while keeping this tidbit a mystery to the populace.
Waiting for the right moment to make a dramatic, emotional and violent public appeal to the remainder of the regular army, Republican Gaurds, suicide bombers and anyone thinking of deserting or running into the arms of coalition forces might be part of the overall Iraqi strategy.

But is it to his advantage to have us believe that he may be dead? that is the crux of the scenario. I would like to see some discussion on this.
personally, I think he's dead.
