EXTREMITY? Stalin's little Gulag experiment killed millions of Russians. Stalin was a narcissistic sociopath, just read any commentary on him by those who survived being associated with him. Stalin was an ethnic Georgian who exihibited less sign of human emotions than Hitler, and he killed more people than Adolf.

If Russians are fondly remembering the Georgian Stalin, it's only because they don't like being a recognized superpower anymore, and have forgotten the Gulags, the military purges of 1937-38, the terror, and the 10 million dead Ukranians, not to mention the rest.
