Angry callers flooded phone lines at Columbia University Friday, denouncing a professor who called for an Iraqi victory over U.S. troops and said he would like to see "a million Mogadishus."
The Mogadishu reference recalled the Somali city where 18 U.S. soldiers were killed 10 years ago.
University president Lee C. Bollinger called Newsday to say he was stunned by the comments made by Assistant Professor Nicholas De Genova, one of more than two dozen speakers at a "teach-in" Wednesday night.

I wonder why the mods are protecting this guy? I mean, I saw and posted on the other threads, and the only "personal" information I saw was public information--his University office telephone #, his fax, his office # and address. Nothing that was private or secret. I saw no one post his private home address, for example.
I think the mods have gone overboard on this, protecting this guy--they must have their reasons, but it does seem puzzling.

He didn't say anything that thousands of others haven't been saying on liberal college campuses, but he said it a little too clearly.
If I know Ivy League colleges, they will do nothing now, but when he comes up for tenure they will turn him down on some other grounds--not enough books and articles, or whatever. Not because there aren't many tenured faculty at Columbia with similar political views, but because he has caused embarassment to the president and the university and may even have lost them a few alumni donations.
Eric Foner is a well-known Marxist weasel, but even he knows enough to repudiate such an embarassing jerk.

It is time for Columbia to exercise its right to freedom of association and fire this POS/SOB, ASAP.

So when will this jerk be terminated??He's untenured.
If he is in the first couple years of his appointment, then he may very well get released, i.e., contract not renewed.
If he's in his fourth/fifth year, then this may have been an effort to stir up a controversy with hopes of provoking grounds for an appeal (or law suit) if not granted tenure.

If people get contact information via FR, and use it to leave vicious, and even criminal messages (e.g., death threats), it could discredit FR, which would end up helping this slimeball (sp?).

At De Genova's office at Columbia, where he is a professor of anthropology and Latino studies, a recording said Friday that his voice mailbox was full.No doubt.
