there was, and is, no single monolithic strategy; and if there were it would be monumentally naïve.

Describes the press corps and other fellow travellers to a "t," in addition to their having a not-so-subtle agenda, as shown by their inane questions and attempts to hound the CenCom briefers into saying something that supports their stupid claims.

If we at FR have thought of a strategy or weak point, the planners at the Pentagon have thought of it long since.

I think flexibility is the key to THE PLAN and the press refuse to accept that. They insist on an alledged prewritten plan which should not be deviated from. Any "deviation" from this plan - in the eyes of the press - is played upon as a failure or a mistake or inability of the military to predict the enemies moves. I think the author is right. The military anticipated these moves and has adjusted accordingly. Interesting read. Thanks for the post.

BTTT!

The oil fields have been seized before Saddam could blow them
No oil being poured into the gulf
No Scuds hit Israel
Forces got accross the bridges before Saddam could blow them .

Attack has gone great

Notice that now that the Myth of the Debacle has been firmly established, the Media Left is proceeding with the predictable attack (in the New Yorker) on Rumsfeld as the Cause of the Debacle, full of anonymous quotations from "senior defence planners," i.e., real or fictional bitter Pentagon hacks who can't stand it that Rumsfeld preferred someone else's product. Next it will be that the Jewish Lobby lured Rumsfeld into Causing the Debacle in a deep-laid plan Lure America Ever More Deeply into the Middle East.

The lies are thick enough to make you gag.
