The city of Thousand Oaks, CA took down 300 yards of yellow ribbons, from the trees, on Lynn Road. They were placed there by Brenda Freeman for her son Eric, who is currently in the Gulf.

As a transplant from Orange County, I can agree with you 100%. Not to mention a good number of the marines in Iraq right now call CALIF home.

Did you see Post #35? The City DOES want yellow ribbons. The City HAS yellow ribbons. The City DONATES yellow ribbons. Sheesh!

Sorry, that's vandalism - and comes with jail and a fine - NOT a good idea. Think of something more productive.

Here are the total list of e-mail contacts I've found for Thousand Oaks:
city@toaks.org CityManager@toaks.org cnclmanfox@aol.com bwilson@toaks.org dgillette@toaks.org emasry@toaks.org cbill@toaks.org I would advise e-mailing all of them with one message. My e-mail focused on:
1. The fact their decision has humilliated Thousand Oaks nationwide.
2. The fact that they clearly don't understand patriotism if they object to the community uniting while our troops are in harm's way.
3. I don't buy any of their legalistic arguments since this has been done in the past and is being elsewhere throughout the nation.

Babs, did she have help with putting up these ribbons? How many neighbors helped her? That counts for something.
The town council has a duty to be concerned, and even to exert its due authority by removing such signs, markers, banners flags and ribbons until a proper authorization on the part of the town as a body is made by it.
If rather than being a regular soldier, her son had become a prisoner, or a hostage -- why then they, out of concern and proper regard for the expected high emotions and spirit in that special circumstance, should leave such ribbons up. Other than that extraordinary circumstance, the town did their duty, just as her son and many others are doing their duty..

And "The City" countenances all of this patriotic stuff only on its own terms, confident in the certain knowledge that the peasants are cowering in their overpriced huts.
Those that some seek to honor with yellow ribbons are risking their very lives in the name of freedom, while home-grown sheeple are afraid to face misdemeanor charges ("jail time," you say?) that most likely would be thrown out of court or nuked on appeal-- or by public pressure from those who refuse to wear the shackles jingled by a piss-ant burg in the Third World country that for now continues to refer to itself as "California"....

You should be sure to kneel when you deliver your polite entreaty to the Royal Court of Thousand Oaks...

"Good luck. I think the reactionaries around here would rather blast off a bunch of uninformed e-mails and phone calls than find out the truth of matter and calm down."
No kidding. I guess today's the first time I've been embarrassed to be a Freeper. This thread is sounding more like DU: "I've made up my mind; don't confuse me with the facts."

Oh, puh-leeze. Don't talk to me about people risking their lives in the name of freedom. Since my family LOST their lives trekking over on the Mayflower, and then during the years that followed, and then in the Revolutionary War, I "get it".
And not all of us living here in our "overpriced huts" are here because we want to be. I'd rather be in the farmhouse built by my family 200 years ago in rural N.Y. state, where people fly their flags every day, care about their neighbors, and go to church. But I'm in this overpriced hut because this is where my husband's job happens to be. Lighten up, OK?

... the home of "civil unions"...where you can carry concealed or openly without a permit, own without registration and tranfer at will without permission from anyone.
There's good and bad everywhere. Aside from the tax implications which are negligible, I don't give a rip what a few queers are doing. The worst thing about Vermont is Act 60, a tax and education issue which eventually will be repealed.
Admit it; you just don't like all those Yankees d;^)
