The city of Thousand Oaks, CA took down 300 yards of yellow ribbons, from the trees, on Lynn Road. They were placed there by Brenda Freeman for her son Eric, who is currently in the Gulf.

My suggestion to Brenda is to move away from California. There are many places left that are still American where she and her son will be greatly appreciated. She can look at the Red/Blue map and pick a nice spot.

Let's all go over to the mayor's house and make the front yard yellow.

Suggestion: Put up red, white and blue ribbons instead.
Let them try to take those down!

Brenda is floored by this action.

She should have told them that her son is a homosexual with AIDS. They would help her put them up.
To: YourAdHere
Come on people. If they want to put them up on their property so be it. I assume this is other peoples property. You want a bunch of aids ribbons put there also?

And, how many times, in the last week, have I heard leftist say, every one in this country support the troops?
Well, I think we can start naming a few towns that do not :--(

I'm all for freedom of expression and I know those who put up the yellow ribbons mean well, but personally, I don't like 'em. They seem too, well, Carteresque, reminding me of Amercia's helplessness during the Iran hostage crisis. Yes, let's go for red, white and blue, but can we can the yellow ribbons? Never cared for the song, either.
To: barbarianbabs
What possible message a yellow ribbon says would anyone object to? To me it is an expression that we look forward to and will welcome the return of our military. Even if you object to war, what is the problem? It is only PC if it supports the liberal view, I guess. If they put up 300 large AIDS ribbons, would they come down?

Seriously, she would be very welcome in many places. This is not normal American behavior in 99% of the US outside of California and New England.

Every time someone like you encourages others who share your views to move out of California, you ensure it will get even worse here. How about some reinforcements?

As a recent escapee from SoCal (and having seen this sort of thing in NoCal)... to CentCal (just outside Bakersfield)! ... please don't lump all Californians together. The wackos in LA and SanFran don't speak for the real people in the rest of CA. :-)

Alas Arkie... you're so right... I'm a Texas girl living in Vermont... </sob>... the home of "civil unions"...
