Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Major Bob has a lot of good info but I am not always convinced that he knows what the actual game plan is. Also said that he agrees with McCaffrey that there are not enough ground and armored troops. Second guessing Rummy and Franks. I was not impressed by Major Bob.

SkyGuy at Camp David saying there are lots of fences to be mended with Russia, Germany, France. Lots of fancy footwork.
Saying French and British are closer in view of reconstruction than French and American.
French saying will veto anything that doesn't preclude American/British control.
Russians hemming and hawing about involvement. Americans countering that Pootie has been provided with names and places and things that are now being used against Allies.
SkyGuy saying LOTS of American anger.
Me: You don't know the half of it!

Thanks for your analysis and insight. I agree. In fact, I believe the Chinese reporters to be more hostile than even those coming from Muslim nations. They are, however, part of the "coalition of the unwilling because we've sold stuff to Saddam" - so I'm not surprised.

World Net Daily is the only source I've seen or heard repeating the CBN embedded reporter, Paul Strand's, statement about the chemical weapon (warhead) find yesterday:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/877117/posts I'm at a loss why this hasn't been talked up more, at least by the conservative-leaning outlets.

Navigating around FR the last few days has reminded me just how well developed this site has become over the years. Thanks to John Rob and staff. Beautiful!

"Would it be legit to use these EPW's to contact their former unit and tell them they're being treated well...AND that they haven't a snowball's chance of prevailing? "
Although a good idea, I don't think it's allowed by the convention - questions of being coerced etc...

Just back - definitely a different tone set today. Phone calls, complaints of Anti-Americanism work. Also, wouldn't be surprised if their own embedded journalists told them to knock it off.
Will be interesting to see if George Stepphie answers any questions at home re why he came home.
Press conf. at 11:00 with Bush and Blair. PS - called my affiliates yesterday - said they been getting complaints since the weekend.

Heard one of the press conferences yesterday where our guys said there isn't anything in the Geneva Convention that prohibits taking out television.

My insight on military history is bad.
This has been an education for me.

I was not impressed with that comment either. Why is everyone ignoring that there were additional troops called up yesterday, or the discussion of "force flow" which I heard a couple of days ago? It is my understanding that we have a continuous increase in force simultaneous with the invasion. This is a different strategy to allow assigning troops where they are needed in country, rather than having them all held in Kuwait or some other country.
If I can understand this theory, why can't retired military personnel?
And I think the armor complaint is silly, since the Abrams is both stronger and has a far longer range than the Iraqi armor.
That's what I think, anyway.

The UN Security Council is meeting today. Who's repping us today? Negroponte or Powell?
