Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Good morning!
I left the house for the office just as the questioning started - I'm thankful I missed the idiocy. Cowgirl, I can't thank you enough for your incredible recaps.
Prayers for our brave troops, our wounded soldiers, the POW's, and those killed in the service of our country.

David Bloom has done some of the finest battlefield reporting in this war that I've seen. He's put you right there, made you feel what he and the troops he's with are experiencing and he's done it in an easily accessible way.

Note: we are watching a guy filming the same scene we are watching.
The smoke is getting worse it appears

One more comment about videotaping EPWs. If they are being led to a safe place away from the fighting (as required by the GC) and there happen to be press there, than there is no violation. However, EPWs who have been secured cannot then have media brought in to interview or photograph them. Those holding EPWs should also ensure that media is kept away from open air enclosures as well, of which the coalition could do a better job.
It is a legalistic distinction but an important one.

I detect a new tactic by the press. The questions from the American media and even Al Jazeera (!) were fairly reasonable, discounting the "when do we arrive in Baghdad" question.
BUT, free lancers and independents are obviously now asking the proaganda questions that the networks know we will be PO'd about. My reason for thinking this is the applause after the NY magazine guy's question.
Now, let's see if the same trick is pulled at the Pentagon briefing.
I must conclude there were a lot of calls made to networks and affiliates yesterday.
Interesting that Steffie went home.

Outstanding recap. It's a good thing you can type far faster than I can.

It's getting later in the afternoon. I don't think it's getting worse so much as the angle of the sun is making it look darker (of course, I could be wrong, so don't quote me).
