Report Says Slain U.S. Soldiers Tried to Surrender (Graphic Photos)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One report reaching the U.S. military said that some of the 12 soldiers whose supply convoy was ambushed near Nassiriya in southern Iraq on Sunday were killed by their captors although they tried to surrender, a U.S. defense official said on Wednesday. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the report received from the field said that the U.S. soldiers "weren't given the opportunity to surrender. They attempted to surrender." Some of the U.S. soldiers instead were killed by the Iraqi forces, the official said.

The official did not characterize the nature or reliability of the intelligence information on which this report was based. The official also did not indicate where the surrendering soldiers were slain.

Another defense official said the U.S. military had received "mixed reports" about the incident.

U.S. officials have said an Army supply convoy apparently made a wrong turn during a battle near Nassiriya, and members of an Army maintenance unit were ambushed by Iraqi "irregular forces." U.S. officials say 12 soldiers were missing.

Five U.S. soldiers being held as prisoners were shown being interrogated on Iraqi television. The dead bodies of several others also were shown on Iraqi television. Some of the bodies appeared to have bullet wounds to the forehead, suggestive of possible execution, and were shown sprawled on the floor of a room in puddles of blood.

The people to get agitated with are those that took the photos and used them to excite the idiot moon god followers.

When they shot the first surrendering POW, as far as I am concerned, the gloves are off. You take it your way pal and I will take it mine. Whine all you want to, I would handle it my way. IF I did not see two hands up or one hand started coming down, then tough luck. As far as I am concerned, 100 of their stinking towel heads are not worth the life of one of my troops. How you feel about it I could give a rats ass less.

I did not increase it's size, it was the picture I found when I searched the story to see if someone other than reuters is reporting this. The caption with the pic was the news I was adding, as well as I wanted to actually see the picture.

The USN and Marines are my family, my entire life is the military. The tragic loss I feel, like you don't even know, the picture was posted because I think it is odd looking and possibly fake. The back body has a odd shape in the chest and the blood loss is suddenly gone from the pictures (only mud) that folks spoke of from al jeezzera. And what is the odd light thing to the right of the pic?

I am in the medical profession and these things do not bother me. Life is life and death is death. Possibly because I see it every day I did not think and for this I truly apologize. I am truly sorry I offended you.

You and I are of one mind on this issue. I said earlier, and someone got his shorts in a wad, that I did not care how many of the rag heads died. I was for total protection of our people. I am sorry, but if a bunch of rag heads from Rag-Bag are hiding behind women and children and shooting at my people, well I am so sorry, but by god we are returning fire. War is hell. Combat is called a MF. That may be what it is, but I an not coming back to the USA and telling a wife with a couple of little kids that her husband died because I told our people to hold fire, we might hit civilians the bad guys were hiding behind and KILLING our people. To hell with the entire rag headed bunch of them. They all want to be with Al-La, I would be so happy to assist them in an immediate introduction to him in hell. Ever since they murdered our POWs trying to give up, I have been totally tranfixed on wasting the entire bunch of them. No mercy. They showed none to our people.

I understand these graphic photos possibly horrifying fellow Americans. I see things rather differently as far as information/details and pictures.

If it were my spouse as a POW, I am a retired Navy wife. And once I was in a situation back in Tripoli/Beirut days of yrs. ago where I could have been the spouse with a POW. As also life expectancy in the amphibious group landings was 15 seconds. I would KNOW that I would be notified ASAP of atleast a guessed/known status. For closure, if there were graphic photos atleast I would know-SOMETHING.

Yeah if the body were dragged like the pictures leads (the mud stains) why is there what seems to be a 9milimeter still tucked and clean. And whats with the right hand? The pictures looks 'off' to me.
