A couple weeks ago, diotima of FRN suggested we create a compilation of photos from the numerous pro-Troop rallies and forwarded it to our Armed Services personnel. Original thread.
I have collected photos from 63 rallies in as many cities, just since March 1st, and I will continue to do so with future events.
Here is our thinking and where we need input and assistance from the ever creative and resourceful Freepers.
Theme: An UPBEAT montage of differing photos, interlaced with public domain shots of American landscape/monument photos, short video clips of rallies, and energetic music throughout. We'd like to stay away from 9/11 (they know why they're there) and shots of military equipment and such (they live that stuff). The purpose is to show our support and make them feel invigorated as they watch it.
Media type: a)10 minute CD-ROM with auto-run, looping and individual frame capability. Good to professional production values (no simple slide-show). A master for this type of production has been quoted from $500 - $1000, depending on complexity. Mass duplication runs from about $1.25 per 1000 with an additional minimum $.25 per sleeve and up depending on graphics.
b)Website with streaming capability.
Distribution: Here is the difficult part. The DOD Public Affairs people tell me there is not the resources, people, nor logistic pipeline to support the countless civilian support projects they have been approaced with. Because of bio-chem concerns, the military is no longer accepting packages/mail unless addressed to a specific member. The USO is only accepting monetary donations for CARE packages which the DOD puts together. If we attempted to send these CD's to the hundreds of units around the World, I fear they would sit in a pile of undesignated mail and packages awaiting to be tested for bio-chem threats.
However, it may be possible to contact each Navy ship in the area and send them just one which can be played on the shipwide CCTV they have. But what about the ground troops with their laptops? You can start to see the logistics problems here. Plus a web site would have to be found and a satellite uplink available. Idea: if someone has a high-level fedgov contact, maybe we could get an endorsement and he/she could help with distribution.
Funding: Production, duplication, and postage could approximate $5.00 per disc.
THEY NEED TO KNOW WE ARE HERE FOR THEM and APPRECIATE THEIR SACRIFICE!
Please help us with this very worthwhile project. We need your ideas, suggestions, and assistance.
Working title: "WITH LOVE AND APPRECIATION" or ???
"The Era of Osama lasted about an hour, from the time the first plane hit the tower to the moment the General Militia of Flight 93 reported for duty." Toward FREEDOM
I have one even better than this, but will need to Email it to you.
Please include location and exact date. Thank you.
