I need some guidance on how to print & construct protest/rally signs.
We have some ideas, and some graphics made up. (We're not good at making hand-lettered signs.) But where do you go to get them printed? On what stock? What sizes are standard? How much do they cost? What's the turnaround time?
Here's my idea, scaled for 16x20. (see Full size GIF here):
Also, let's make this thread a repository of your best sign ideas, or the best ones you've seen so far.
Thanks!

You might try your local Kinko's, though they can be expensive.
Some office max stores offer similar capabilities, and at lower costs.

I love it! That is my new sign. I can't wait for our Freep on Friday.

Check with your local printing companies and sign-making stores (Kinko's
is a good one) and see what formats they will accept the graphics in.
My best experiences have been with either TIFF or EPS; both formats will allow the image to be resized without losing the visual qualities of the image. But check with your printer just to be sure...

Thanks. We stopped by the Southcenter Kinko's (S. Seattle, WA) last night, but they didn't know anything.
What paper stock do you use? And at what size do you start thinking about foam core?

This is my favorite.
All of these are good.
Just click on posters.
Of course most are only appropriate for counter protests but still are GREAT!

Download a copy of Poster 7.9 from
Here This lets you design big posters, and then will automagically divide them into pieces sized for your printer and print them. They will have match and cut lines to let you put the pieces together.
I suggest you go to the Office depot or wherever and by a pack of 8.5x11 card stock, like 3x5 cards are made from. It is about the heaviest that will reliably function thru a printer and has a nice smooth finish that takes the ink well.
Get some glue sticks and use that to glue the pieces onto a piece of poster board.

I recently made a couple of signs and strive for two goals.
1) Few words. Think about your message and boil it down to as few words as possible. No one will read an essay.
2) Readable from 200 feet. Make it in big bold letters similar to the one you posted.
My signs read, "DICTATORS LOVE COWARDS" and "USA - LIBERATE IRAQ".

I guess I should have told you this sign was because the SF anti-war people had pooped and vomited on the steps to SF's City hall. Nice people huh??
