Just monitored on Sky News: embedded reporter says Shiites in Basra have begun, in his words, a "popular uprising" against the Saddam forces still in the city. British Army units are "pouring" artillery into the city (likely isolated areas) preparing to move in.

Hooray for Freedom! Hmmmm. DU Dummies have a lot of puke faces posted.
They say it's the beginning of the end.
Iraq is "fractioning", and dangerous because they all know how the Iraqi's hate the west.
(It's so anti-US over there, I had to leave. Talk about depression!)

We should allow this massacre to happen, as far as I am concerned. It will be extremely difficult for Coalition forces to be able to separate the good guys from the bad guys here, I say we let the local populace do it for us. I agree.
Any Baathist thugs that are captured by Allied forces and allowed to live will only be a cancer in post-war Iraq. They all need the Mussolini treament from the locals that they have terrorized all these years.

Hmm. Don't remember the dozens of American traitors who came from the U.S. but, in American uniforms, helped pave the way for the Nazis in the Battle of the Bulge?
Nahhh. Couldn't be that we are competent. Hell no. Just crushed the "invincible" Soviet Empire without, really, firing a shot; stomped the vaunted "Republican Guard" in 1991; and now are on schedule to stuff Saddam's remains into a grenade launcher---all while launching major offensives against Al-Quaeda in Afghanistan. Yep, that's surely a sign of an inept nation.

the Shi'ites are generally more fundamental That's interesting. What do you consider more "fundamental": Protestant or Catholic?
To: Paradox
They will, no doubt about it...

Hopefully, we have CIA agents stirring up trouble against Saddam in the crowds.Or maybe the Shiits are beginning to realize the Saddams people are responsible for the innocent people being shot in Basra, not the liberators.

Note to "recent history" buffs, from another post . . .
Mrs. Wasp and I were just discussing the fact that after Gulf War I, we stood by while both the Kurds and the Shiites got such a Saddam blood baath . . .

Good thoughts. We were once friends with the Iranians. I hope that can happen again.

Lester Holt was smirking the night the towers came down. I'm with you, he's a good newsman but sometimes he seems to enjoy it a little too much. Not that I mind a happy warrior. He has reason to smile now.

You could put it that way. The war on terrorism is a war against a group of people that hold a similar ideology. They are not a nation, or a race, or a religion.
Political organization is a passable word (although as a descriptor, it fails to connote the evil and hatred that drive its sympathizers).
