Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

What do you think are the odds that the Kurds will break off to become sovereign?

Shia Uprising against Saddam: Woohoo! Good news. Now, if we can just get the RG to turn around and lead the charge into Baghdad. Given the right conditions, they just might.

Lets try and confirm this news....

>>Same "boundary" problem exists in the Middle East<<
Issuing a guarantee for the territorial integrity of Iraq was naive and foolish.
I would have given the Turks Mosul a year ago for the bases.

There had better be a tax cut or this president will serve but one term. The war costs have to be defrayed by the Administration either by revenues from Iraqi oil sales and/or frozen/tainted Iraqi assets.
The tax cut is crucial.

Hope this is true. The news will get to folks further north via Iraqi folks here in the US who support this war.

I have to tell you how you saved me LOTS of money!
I had finally gotten my act together and started running a bath so I could get on with my day. Then someone posted that story about the mine-hunting dolphin and I loved it! So I started emailing it to all my family and friends.
When I finished I came back to catch up on the thread and immediately came upon your post. You said Rummy would be coming up and -- as always --I started thinking what I have to do now so I can catch his briefing. Then it hit me...THE BATH! I ran to the bath and it was about 1 1/1 inches from overflowing! Thank goodness I have a deep tub.
Anyway, thanks!

Sky News via Fox News - Shi'ite majority in Basrah beginning an uprising against the Ba'aths; British forces aiding.
The CNN BaghdadCam is now history. MSNBC BaghdadCam switched to a new feed after the Iraqi TV interference. CBS BaghdadCam (
RealPlayer) up at the debris-limited corner that CNN and MSNBC had been at.

Iraqi soldiers are firing mortars on their own people, according to the Beeb. Their correspondent's sat phone cut out before his report was over.

I geez...great timing here for me. I just posted a complete rant on the other thread talking about the lack of support the coalition forces are getting from the people. I'll take it back if this is true.

I was listening to BBC and their correspondent said the Iraqi soldiers were firing mortars on their own people. The anchors said they were getting bits of similar information from other sources.

Brits are hitting the thugs with artillery and the people are mounting their own offensive!!!

There will be a tax cut and don't forget this is pushing the long term cut to an immediate cut. The market is very stable today and I'm sure it's WAY ABOVE what the Dems ever dreamed.
