Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I've got dsl and cabble, wishing I had a shortwave radio to get foreign broadcasts. I don't want to hear just one side of the story.Agreed, I've got three and a HF transceiver. Before the Internet, there was shortwave.
Here are some vendors: Universal Radio, Grove Enterprises, Amateur Electronic Supply.

Its not immpossible, but about as likely as dropping a nuke. You just aren't going to supply and Armored unit larger than a platoon by airdrop. Its just logistically stupid.Berlin, 1947.

It's likely that Pentagon anticipated about 10 days worth of sandstorms during 4 week period.

CNN doing a monologue with their embedded journalist who says the 101Airborne is at a stop due to weather. All helicopters are grounded (according to CNN).

Why waste bombs (and increase pilot time-over-target risks) to put more bombs into a target not strategically valuable?
Yes, it still stands - as a building. But if it isn't being actively USED by Saddamn - then, frankly, we have better things to blow up.

Just let a single reporter come to my door.....
(unless of course it's an FNC reporter) :-)

Prez spoke and CentCom had a presser.
Tony coming to US this weekend.
$75B supplemental request in the Congress.

If we really believed that we are close to a point where the Iraq RG will use CW, wouldn't a windy day be to our advantage....especially when the wind is coming out of the SW?Yup. Windy conditions and strong sunlight really degrade the effectiveness of chemical weapons. The wind dilutes the agents, and the UV light in sunlight decomposes the agents.

However, he reported that "hundreds" of Iraqis who have been hanging out in Jordan are returning to Iraq to "join the resistance" against the U.S. and Coalition forces. He noted they are hearing reports of cities that have not been secured, such as Basra, and they intend to go help out the Fedayeen, per this reporter. He even helpfully showed video of these guys in a restaurant with a tv on showing war coverage and then they took off, ostensibly to fight for Saddam.
A lot of this big talk will end when the Republican Guard formations are hammered by V Corps. Once the Iraqis understand who the Big Dog is, and are resolutely hammered into submission, they will act accordingly.
Right now, Iraqi spokesmen are having a field day. However, in a short period of time, the facts will make themselves felt.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

CNN reporting # of sorties decreased dramatically due to weather. Lightening and 50-60 mile an hour winds.
