Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Wow! Chilling first hand account of 300 armed 'farmers' hiding in trenches firing at our convoy. Thanks for the link. Sadly, this will still be reported as a couple of row croppers and one rifle by the quagmire quarter.

The UN should be the vehicle for the after-combat humanitarian aid... It will help mend the rift between us and France and Germany and the rest.

This is a non-sequitur.

If we want to make nice to Germany, then we let THEM help. Same-o w/France.

The UN is not Germany or France, nor the USA. It is an ineffective and largely anti-US organization which is a canker.

Question about WMDs

Renuart: You ask this everyday. Do you ask this everyday.

And she answered "Yes"!

Answer from all persons addressing this since yesterday seems to be we are securing suspicious sites (some we knew of before going in, of course) and we must win on the battlefield, then attention to investigating these plants and sites will be done thoroughly.

>>When those Muslims explode (and they will)... they will need us, and we will need to aid them. An endangered Europe is an endangered USA...<<

Wrong.

An endangered Europe is an endangered Europe-and it ain't our problem.

Islamic conquest of Europe?

Too bad, so sad. Here's a quarter:

Call someone who cares.

Embedded reporters doing well.

I know that... I watched it too...

I understand everything that France and Germany, et al did. I do not excuse it. In fact, I hate it.

But, we need France and Germany, et al to win the war on terror.

I do not believe it is in the USA's interest to punish France and Germany. I realize that I may be standing on my own here... but, I'm looking further down the road... when France and Germany become the future battleground... I will keep the friendship in place, even if it means they come to help us in Iraq.

If I were the President, I would not go to the UN for any further war plans though. There, the UN has proved itself to be worthless...

Chilling: Activity that makes me what to grab my heart a la Fred Sanford:

"The attacks came at dusk, when a civilian truck thought to be carrying farmers abruptly stopped and men hopped out with guns.

Within seconds, hundreds of other Iraqis who were hiding in trenches and behind sand berms on either side of the road began firing at the convoy.

"I observed two pickups coming up towards us slowly and they seemed friendly," said Gunner Beau Mattioda from Orinda, Calif. "They dismounted and then ran from these vehicles with weapons. It seemed that the Iraqis were everywhere. Behind the berms, behind the building. It was very lucky for us we managed to dodge it this time." "

I think it is more of a case of conflicting styles. McAffery is a "bigger is better" (Army - note the big A) style. Franks is more of a high-tech, "joint" commander who believes in using all the services together.
