LA SLIMES' NOTABLE OSCAR QUOTABLES -- NICOLE KIDMAN ON ONE SIDE... AND FR'S "RONDOG" ON THE OTHER!
LEFT ANGELES SLIMES
Posted on 03/24/2003 1:59:50 PM PST by AnnaZ
So I finally start going through, page by page, the Oscar coverage in today's Slimes (that's right... still reading it so that you don't have to). And then I almost had a heart attack.
The "E"/"Calendar Part 1" Section is dedicated to Oscar coverage, E1 starting it all off with a big pic of Best Actor winner Adrien Brody smooching presenter Halle Berry and the beginning of the story.
Following it in to E2 and E3, there are a bunch of huge picture of various winners from the night, the top of each page prefaced with a huge bold quote.
On the left side (heh, heh) is one quote:
"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil?
Because art is important."
Nicole Kidman, accepting the best actress award
On the right side (in more ways than one ;^) is another quote:
"If John Wayne was here, he'd be doing what we're doing.
He'd be supporting the troops."
Ron Smith, demonstrator at Hollywood and Highland
CONGRATULATIONS, RONDOG!!! You ROCK!!!

Because art is important." I am torn between descriptives: Sad, clueless, unimaginative, deceptive, dim, unprepared, dishonest.
Although, low on the offensive scale given the current level of Hollywood expression.

And then there are some people who don't care to get the whole story.
As to why she comes to awards shows "when the world is in such turmoil," Kidman said: "Because art is important ... and because you believe in what you do, and you want to honor that. It is a tradition that needs to be upheld, and at the same time, you say there are a lot of problems in the world. Since 9/11, there has been a lot of pain, in terms of families losing people and now with the war families losing people. God bless them."

Great job!
Mr. RAT, I have a writ here that says you're to stop trampling on our troops forthwith. Now, it's a RAT writ, writ for a RAT and delivered to same!

The hollyweirdos kill me. They are so self-absorbed. They are actors. They pretend well. Big whoopie. You don't see the college basketball players standing before cameras saying "Why do we have March Madness playoffs during times like these?...because basketball is important..."
Hollyweirdos act like they are being brave by attending the Oscars. They are not worthy to wash the feet of our soldiers.

I do believe we take ourselves to seriously when a comment like hers is beaten to death.

"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil? Because art is important."What you do Nicole is not art, it is porn! You are about as phony as your breasts and hair color. Congratulations to the Acadamy!!

Art is important. Maybe not the
most important thing (and that's not what she said), but important no doubt.
Think of a world with no music, paintings, operas, ballets, etc...
As I posted earlier, art is in the eye of the beholder, but I cannot imagine a world without art.
To: rabidralph
a) I watched the show, heard the whole quote and am only posting what the Slimes posted.
b) I make movies. I happen to love the medium.

I usually don't like Hollywood types but what she said is OK. I just hope she didn't simper.
"Because art is important."
Hmm. Hmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. No, it's not important.

Congratulations Jim, on the meteoric rise of FR's traffic numbers.
The left continues to maim itself. It is my hope that by the time we have another national election, not only will the left have shot themselves in both feet, but that we will find them tottering on stumps for legs.

In time of war, art is more important than ever. Homer knew that. Virgil knew it.
The only problem with Nicole Kidman's comment is that there's LITTLE OR NO ART at the Academy Awards.

Unfortunately, I would date her even if she was liberal. In her case I would make the ultimate sacrifice.Dating HB is not a sacifice, Helen Thomas would be...even looking @ her would be... :)
