The Backlash Grows Against Celebrity Activists By WARREN ST. JOHN

OR a few days after the Dixie Chicks' lead singer, Natalie Maines, told a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas," there was not a ripple about the remark. The American ambassador to Britain, William S. Farish, was at the show on March 10, and made it a point to greet the Texas trio at a reception afterward. Though six critics reviewed the concert, only one mentioned the comment in print.

Four days later, all that had changed. Reports of the remark spread to the United States through Web sites — notably the Drudge Report and a conservative site called Freerepublic.com — and in no time, the Dixie Chicks, who had been riding the top of the charts with their album "Home" after winning Grammy Awards in February, found themselves the subject of radio boycotts and public CD burnings. Ms. Maines apologized for the remark, but by week's end, the boycotts had contributed to a 20 percent drop in airplay

I know what you mean. An even worse case many years ago was all the people buying Jane Fonda's excercise video.

Here's how the verse should read:

Mike Farrell played BJ Hunnicut on MASH.

Mike Farrell wants to give Saddam Hussein a BJ.

notably the Drudge Report and a conservative site called Freerepublic.com

Our power GROWS. Can you imagine what it will be like in 5 more years? By then we should have total control of the U.S. electoral process.

Watch out libs. You're standing in front of a freight train named FR.

The Hollyweird position on the First Amendment is, "All for me and none for thee."

Well, this should be a bumpersticker!

The D.U.h crowd is responsible for a lot of that,
many posts about buying cd's in support.
Let things die down, and so will the Vichy Chicks career's
They were made career-wise by people who normally listen to country music, not hard-core libs...

Janeane Garofalo, an actress who has been outspoken in opposition to the war, argues that the antipatriotism charge is meant to "shut down debate and thwart First Amendment rights."

"We are extremely supportive of the troops," she said. "Anyone who says yes to peace and diplomacy is saying yes to the troops."

Vacuous. "We are really doing them a favor by undermining support for them." Jane Fonda would be proud.

This is too funny! We should tell the celeb 'pundits'(?) "Welcome to conservatism!"

Conservatives argue and debate constantly, picking apart each other's arguments, demanding 'proof', shredding each others' statements, etc.

Conservatives were quiet for decades because WE got attacked, harrassed, hounded by the Left every time WE opened OUR mouths.

Then something happened on the information highway (FR). Conservatives discovered a way to be heard. No longer could the mainstream media ignore us and thus wipe us off the map.

What the celebs are actually squealing about is having their feet held to the fire for what they say and advocate. If they can't stand the heat, they'll have to get out of the kitchen! LOL

I live in Fairfax, VA. Let me assure you that this is not the end of Moran's problems. There are already two popular local politicians lining up to oppose him for the 2004 nomination. He has lost a large percentage of his financial support. I'll be surprised if he wins another term. This story is not yet over…

If we are paying for Mr. Farrell's stage, we can withdraw our support anytime we want.

There is no Firts Amendment right to a stage, a camera, or broadcast. Talk me into giving you my money to support you, or go stand on the street to exercise your right to speech, just like the rest of us.

And don't forget your flag.

Did you hear Mike Farrell on Hannity trying to say that his friend claiming that "the ruling class in this country is making it like Nazi Germany" was NOT calling Bush a Nazi? And he kept attacking people who pointed out that that was exactly the implication of the statment. Interestingly, the 'friend' (whoever he was, I forgot) never came out to deny his clear meaning.

THOUGHT YOU WOULD ENJOY THE RESPONSE I GOT FROM MY TULSA RADIO STATION....

Dear Listener,

K95.5FM serves the needs of our listeners and our community. Simply put, we play the music you tell us you want to hear. That means we don't play music you tell us you don't want to hear. It's just that simple.

Right now, Dixie Chicks music has been removed from our play-list. This action is consistent with the music selection methods that have served us well for the past 22 years. It's not about the political views of the Dixie Chicks or our personal political views, it's about programming the station to the tastes of our local community.

You shape what you hear on K95.5FM. We want to know what you like and what you don’t like about your radio station.

If, and when you, our listeners want to hear music from the Dixie Chicks in the future, we’ll add them to our play-list once again.

Thanks for listening

Signed,
Gerry McCracken

I wonder how Farrell feels about the Colonists' organized boycott against the different products they were being taxed upon by the British, leading up to the Boston Tea Party? I wonder how he feels about the boycott against the bus companies during the Civil Rights Movement? I wonder if he ate grapes during the boycotts organized by Ceasar Chavez? I suppose that he opposed those boycotts, since it affected all those people "professionally!" It seems to me that boycotts ARE a completey American form of protest.
