Investigators: Suspect had been cited for insubordination

CAMP PENNSYLVANIA, Kuwait (CNN) -- A U.S. soldier has been detained and is being questioned in connection with a grenade and small arms attack early Sunday at an Army camp in northern Kuwait, the U.S. Central Command said.

The attack at Camp Pennsylvania, where soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division are stationed, wounded 13 people -- six of them seriously -- U.S. military officials said. Central Command said the suspect is assigned to the division.

Just got through watching FOX.

Obvioulsy a black Muslim...whether American born or a West African born immigrant I couldn't say.

He is with an engineering attachment with the 101st.

Of the wounded several looked very serious. One has died sadly. Several others seriously wounded.

The perp was striking out at brigade leaders.

One of the wounded was a woman (so much for no women in combat eh?)

He appeared to be striking out in some misguided interpretation of his religious convictions.

ALL THAT ACCORDING TO A TIME REPORTER ON THE SCENE WHO WAS IN THE TENT WITH THE WOMAN WHO WAS INJURED BY FRAGMENTS>

Having these loons in our combat units is idiocy...PC run amok as usual as costing lives sadly.

Lacey said he was told by a military commander that the soldier lobbed three grenades into the operations center and yelled, "You're under attack!" A major told Lacey he saw a grenade roll by him before an explosion.

I wonder about the significance of that statement?

John Allen Williams aka John Mohammad, aka the DC sniper did something similiar in DS 1.

Sadly when this incident came across the screen, I told my spouse, that it seemed unlikely that it came from an outside force. I said they better check 'within'. I have been concerned about just this type of activity from certain muslims within our forces.

On FNC they had a gentleman on, (didn't catch his name) and he said that out of 13 muslim clerics in the service, at least 9 of them were wahabi. This is not good at all, and I wonder about certain other deaths over the past few weeks/months.

One thing that is good, is that this incident happened early enough that it should serve as a good warning to all troops, now, to pay special attention to any other potential threats from within.

I was also wondering if this soldier could be tried for treason... attacking fellow soldiers during war??? I'm not sure just what all constitutes 'treason', but would think this would be pretty darn close. He endangered his fellow soldiers, just as a mole or spy would. jmo

Not that I mind; I think it's a great idea, unless there's something more painful they can do to him. Just wondered if that punishment is still allowed.

He's black....they'll be loathe to shoot him. I look for a lengthy imprisonment although some FReepers have pointed out that there are military statutes that allow for execution.

For Chrissakes...only FOX is even calling him an American Muslim.....I can only tell from the pictures that he's black. Whether he's a loony Louis NOI homegrown nut or from West Africa or elsewhere I haven't a clue.

The black thing I wish the press would drop. The Muslim thing is disturbing to me. I served with at least a couple of Muslims in the Air force. One was very close. I can't think of them turning on me, but this sh*t is making me wonder.

The muslim angle is being spun into a disgruntled soldier stressed out by combat

He was not acting alone..orignally this story had Iraqi compatriots...grenades thrown into three tents housing the TOC personnel as well as executive officers at both brigade and battalion levels and key admin personnel

The disgruntled soldier spin was debunked by both imbedded press who were on the scence regardless of how many other operatives on fox are pushing to the contrary...

These tents were deliberately targeted..by the suspect and his compatriots...who where not US Army but Iraqis hired on as interpretors..

If this troop was disgruntled or upset with one his commanders...as an NCO and an engineer the people he attacked were strangers to him and he doesnt fall under their command and would have had no contact with them in the course of his work..

The real issue imo is what are the Wahabbi imman chaplins telling these guys...or directing them off post to mosques and islamic centers who are pushing them into jihaad and fatwas...
It is possible that al-Qaeda (known to be in US prisons recruiting) could also have sleepers in place in the Army to be awakend during the seige of Baghdad..

They could do some serious damage to C&C if not ferreted out ASAP

imo...all muslims and immans (chaplins) should be put on the next bus home...
