(CBS) Ten U.S. soldiers were injured, six or seven of them seriously, in a grenade and small arms attack at Camp Pennsylvania in northern Kuwait, reports CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann, who is traveling with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division.
Strassmann said the grenades were rolled into two commanders' tents at the camp. When officers ran from the tents, they were hit by small arms fire.
"From our reports it appears that a terrorist penetrated Camp Pennsylvania, one or more terrorists threw two hand grenades into a tent," said George Heath, spokesman at Fort Campbell, home base of the 101st.
Strassman said three suspects were being held for questioning, two Kuwaitis who served a translators and an American soldier described as a black Muslim.
The injured soldiers were rushed to a field hospital but military officials had no word on their conditions, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Owens said from Camp As Sayliyah in Qatar.
The military did not identify the unit of the 101st that was in the camp but said it had been in Kuwait for about one week. Most of the division has entered southern Iraq.
Separately, Strassmann reported, an Iraqi rocket fired at U.S. forces in Kuwait was destroyed by Patriot missiles launched from nearby Camp New Jersey.
The terror and missile attack came as the U.S. assault on Iraq gained steam. American and British forces besieged the southern city of Basra and pounded Baghdad with impunity. But tough fighting loomed for coalition troops as they pressed deeper into Iraq.
Let Allah seperate them!
"You're a daisy if ya do"
You ignore the truth that is before your eyes, you choose to be ignorant of the threat that islam presents to our nation. You try to compare islam in some way to Christianity which is like comparing apples to tire tools in my opinion.
If the very tenants of a religion promote violence why is it wrong to presume that the followers of that religion will be violent? To reach any other conclusion is naive at best.
In one of your earlier posts you said something to the effect that we should not paint all muslims with such a broad brush. Why is that? The religion they embrace is at odds with the very culture they live in. I do not believe we should allow anyone who professes islam to serve in our military when we are at war with islamic nations.
Their beliefs will render them either ineffective at best,or traitorous at worst to our country.
It is considered to be admiarable to lie to attain an advantage.
The Koran encourages believer to deceive in order to overcome the infidel. Then the infidel is to be killed, of course.
If even 1/3 of the people in this country would actually read the Koran, and see how violent and dangerous it is, what is contained in it is, no one would even question how dangerous Islam is to a free, democratic, society.
I don't care what anyone says, Islam is dangerous to us all.
So if the Roman Catholic Church found out that only 23% of priests are chickenhawking poofters that would be a good result?
Show me a mosque where the Moslems are as mellow as my fellow Lutherans. Any mosque. Anywhere. One. Name one.
Moslems faithful differ only in degree of rabidness. Like concentration camp guards versus actual gas chamber operators.
I have no problem any of with this.
From the comfort of your seat, in front of your PC monitor you don't.
Thanks for reminding me of my comfortable chair. Meanwhile, my boy races through a desert 7000 miles away from home in order for you to have the right and privilege to insult me in veiled ways. I have at a lot at stake in this mess,
Then think of how much you and your boy would have at stake, if your boy and other peoples son's were racing around the world -- fighting 800 million muslims -- something you don't have a problem with.
