Women in the Military
myself

Posted on 03/22/2003 3:13:07 PM PST by MarcoPolo

I've got a serious question that I need some Freeper help with. I know that in World War II women were able to serve separately from men in the Armed Forces in such services as the WACS and the WAVES. Are there any such women's only corps in our services today? This is an honest question. I have wanted badly to serve my country, but I have almost always felt that women's roles in the military should not be a soldiers but as equally important nurses, intelligence officers, and other support staff. ANY FEMALE SOLDIERS OR VETS READING THIS PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED. I'm genuinely interested in knowing this stuff, so if any Freeper can help I'd be most appreciative.

Do you mind my asking why you use the lesbian-feminist spelling "wimmin" instead of the less politically-charged conventional spelling?

I use it to mock certain tough guy posters who would probably be more comfortable in a nice leather bar where there were no wimmin to bother them.
I also use it to mock the feminists.

How strange to come across your thread since this has been on my mind since I first heard that a female has been captured and is a POW. I had always been one to say that women should be able to fight side by side with any man - however, I had never given much thought to a female being captured. A female casualty is one thing but to be captured by people as crazy as this - it is scary - there is just too much torturing that could be done to a woman - more than a man do you presume? I may have to alter my thinking after this - especially if she does not come home to us. I am afraid that I may feel differently now.

You're forgetting WW I and Mata Hari !

Not to mention WW II and Julia Child.
Before becoming a cook, she was an OSS covert agent in occupied Europe. That takes stones almost too big to lift.

In the military, at least you are armed and have a presumption of prisoner of war status.

Thank you very much for your reply.

You do realize that there are many on this thread who are women who feel the same as these so-called "tough guys." Where would you put us?

You're too kind...SO9 is a contrarian regardless of the subject.

Tell him/her the suns sets in the west and you'll get an argument.

Well Marco, two of my sisters are lifer Marines, my cousin is a lifer in the Air Force (a high position, she can't even tell her own family what she does), one of my best friends served for five years in the U.S. Navy.....women can contribute to this country's defense too.

My premise is that other than in the case of a 17 year old daughter, it's not your call to make. They don't belong to you.

Your ad hominem attacks on wimmin in the armed forces as short haired Dykes shows your real motive clearly. If you are kinda wussie in real life, strong wimmin are kinda threatening, aren't they?

I don't know, I have never met anyone who has been "normalized", unless you count lobotomized in that category.

Perhaps you mean "conventional people"?
They don't scare me as long as I don't have to be one.

Servant, not Sevant.

The Nine who control the Black Helicopters of your dreams, and everything else, really.

Yes, Julia WAS part of the OSS; that's how she met her husband.

What makes you think that spies weren't / aren't armed ? They were and probably still are.

The fact that you don't mind taking orders from women means you respect them? I can tell by your comments you haven't a clue what real respect for women is. And neither do the women in your life. Like you, they are just too dumb to know it.
