Iraq suicide attack kills four

Four people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a checkpoint near the northern Iraqi town of Halabja.

The bomber drove up in a taxi and detonated the device, killing himself and a journalist filming nearby.

The other dead were Kurdish peshmerga fighters.

Nine people who were injured have been taken to hospital in Sulaymaniyah.

The area where the bombing happened is controlled by an Islamist group known as Komola.

Iraq's idea of defending their nation reminds me of the old Mel Brooke's movie "Blazing Saddles," where the sheriff Bart holds a gun to his own head and says, "Nobody moves or the [sheriff] gets it!"

Iraq's strategy seems to be:
1. Surrender in such massive numbers that it slows or temporarily stops the invasion as coalition troops try to deal with thousands of POW's in accordance with the Geneva Convention

2. Destroy your own country. THAT'LL SHOW 'EM! Burn your own oil wells and infrastructure. Freaking brilliant tactical manueuver. That'll bring the invaders to their knees.

3. Deliver bombs the old-fashioned way: personally, in person, on your back.

Dont be so quick to condemn the entire religion.... Many of these people (Muslims) are grateful for rescuing them from tyrants.

I wonder how the liberal media in the UK will slant the suicidal attack on their own as a good and just fight for
freedom ?

Will the people protest in the street`s ?

Get our Journalist out of their!

No journalist`s for oil!

Iraq's strategy seems to be:

You raised good points. They may indeed be performing delaying actions to give more time to make adjustments to the defense in and around Baghdad.

Fighting in Baghdad will not be easy with all the civilians that will probably be used by Iraq to fodder. Additionally, Scud missle attacks will possibly eminate from Baghdad.

True, true. I find it odd that while their counter-parts in Iraq are cheering their liberators, Arabs in other countries are condemning the liberation effort. I apologize for heaping all of them together. But I still believe much of Arab culture is very disturbed.

an Islamist group

The Islamics will likely end up killing for more Iraqis than the US will in war.

This makes at least 5 journalists killed in Iraq. As with Afghanistan, the enemy has no wish to get a message out to the world via the media - at least, not LIVE, where the truth might be seen - unless it's a tightly controlled propaganda claim.

Considering the location and the MO, sounds like Ansar al Islam.

That's my belief as well.

Though I understand that their chemical weapons facilities at Sergat and Khurmal took a pounding yesterday, assuming they haven't already cleaned out the villages before the bombing campaign began.
