"We think Hussein is dead" (Bachelor & Alexander breaking)
http://www.wabc.com ^ | March 24, 2003 | Bachelor & Alexander

John Bachelor says his sources say no resistance reported from Baghdad. US is keeping lid on story for fear of mass revolts. Picking this up from their pre-show WABC feed.

"US is keeping lid on story for fear of mass revolts."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we hoping for mass revolts?

This is confusing because I am not keeping track of threads.

First there was a story that the Amreican command was ticked off because information given "on background" was leaked.

Then there was a post saying that ABC had apologised for any unfortunate actions by unnamed individual reporters.

Then this -- a "leak" on a raw ABC network feed -- something that isn't supposed to be seen by the public, but isn't encrypted.

fRemember those huge satellite dishs. One of the cool things about them was the ability to see network transmissions going out to local stations. You could see newscasters picking their noses during commercial breaks, all kinds of stuff that the public wasn't supposed to see.

Well, I think they meant "reprisals." They don't want Shia vs. Suni stuff, or bloody revenge taken against the Baath (sp?) Party, etc. If Sadaam is down, we want peace in the streets.

If the Iraqi Army begins to collapse within the next 48 hours, by God, the folks over at DU will have apoplexy.

Can we get a 24-hour suspension on the policy against quoting the DUmmies, like we did after the 2002 election returns came in?

Wouldn't it be a hoot if with all those billion dollar bunkers, tunnels, and security, Saddam goes down in one shot an hour into the war.

Guess he made a bad investment, eh?

We're hoping to avoid a chaotic free-for-all where everybody tries to settle all their grievances back unto the fourth generation.

Peter Jennings just finished interviewing an embedded journalist driving with American troops toward Bazra.

They are encountering Iraqi soldiers who want to surrender, and the Marines are just ignoring the Iraqi soldiers and moving on.

No time to take prisoners.

Basra might be liberated this morning.

We ought to persuade the new government of Iraq to complain to the French (or whoever) and demand their money back.

Is this the ABC story that wasn't supposed to go out?

No, it's the the CBS story that wasn't supposed to go out.

If this pans out, there will be a different kind of "shock and awe" reverberating throughout the world.

Thought I heard something that would fit that description on the radio this afternoon - coming from ABC.

Really couldn't believe I was hearing it.

"Apoplexy" implies there was neurological function to begin with. Not a good assumption, in your example.

But I understood the gist of your statment, nonetheless. ;-)

"...they are as good as debka when it comes to real facts..."

Huh? These guys have inside scoops all over that region of the world. Can you give some examples of their wrong facts?

I think some of them were already on the ground over there. Their military does a lot of what it wants, when it wants.

Saddam dead, Uday dead from a brain hemorrage and...where is the son nicknamed Sneak by the inner circle. Where is Qusay?

You all know Qusay. The brother considered to be the really dangerous one.

Considered dangerous by Iraqis because he is quietly vicious, not overtly so like his older brother.

We're not hearing about this man. Maybe he died in the attack on the house in Baghdad (hopefully).

One says "We'll be right either way," while another says "But they'll claim they were right either way."

None of them mention the possibility that the people of Iraq might benefit.

Yeah I'd laugh out if turns out to be what happened. Bunkers aren't much protection when you're not in them!
