http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030320/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/fbi_terror_search_3 WASHINGTON - The FBI (news - web sites) issued a worldwide alert Thursday for Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, a Saudi national believed to be plotting terrorist attacks as part of al-Qaida.
The FBI is asking for help from law enforcement officials as well as the public in locating El Shukrijumah, who officials say may have been last seen in Miami before he disappeared. His current whereabouts are unknown.
"El Shukrijumah is possibly involved with al-Qaida terrorist activities and, if true, poses a serious threat to U.S. citizens and interests worldwide," the FBI said in a statement.
El Shukrijumah is described as 27, about 5-foot-4 and 132 pounds or heavier. He may or may not be wearing a beard.
Although born in Saudi Arabia, the FBI says El Shukrijumah carries a Guyana passport and could attempt to enter the United States with a Saudi, Canadian, or Trinidad passport as well. He has also gone by a half-dozen alias.
The FBI alert did not specify the nature of the threats El Shukrijumah may pose to U.S. interests. One FBI official said El Shukrijumah only recently came to the agency's attention, but the official did not say how.
The alert came as the FBI intensified its effort to interview thousands of Iraqi-born individuals living in the United States to uncover any potential terrorist attacks planned by Iraqi operatives or sympathizers and to protect them from any hate crimes.
The FBI also was actively investigating "others who have links to terrorism," including potential al-Qaida members or sympathizers in America.
Several thousand FBI agents were being diverted from regular duties to do the interviews and man command posts at each of the bureau's 56 field offices to gather intelligence and respond quickly to any terrorist threats. A national command center was set up at FBI headquarters in Washington.
"We are bringing to bear the full weight of our resources, expertise, and partnerships," FBI Director Robert Mueller said. "We are running down every lead, responding to every threat, coordinating with every partner, and doing our utmost to keep terrorists from striking back."
The FBI has new authority from Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) to arrest people on immigration charges if they are believed to post a wartime threat. Officials declined to say Thursday if any such arrests had occurred since the onset of war with Iraq (news - web sites).

I just scoured the FBI website, and couldn't find anything about this guy. Originally saw the story on FNC website, but no photo there either.

Trinidad and Tobago were nearly taken over by al-Qaeda back in the early 1990s and there is still a substantial group of sympathizers there:
http://www.un.org/News/briefings/docs/2003/donaldsonPC.doc.htm Additionally, this guy appears to be a Mohammed Atta-type cell leader. That means he's probably traveling with flunkies in tow.
And did they ever find that Mohammed Sher Mohammed Khan chap they were looking for during the Hajj?

FBI hunts al-Qaida suspect in U.S.
Man who lived
in Miami said
to be planning
a major attack
WASHINGTON, March 20 The FBI was hunting Thursday for a suspected al-Qaida operative with pilot training who may be in the United States and planning a major attack, senior counterterrorism officials told NBC News. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said authorities fear the man could be another Mohammed Atta.
THE OFFICIALS sent out a nationwide bulletin to police urging them to be on the lookout for Adnan G. el-Shukrijumah, who recently was using the alias Jaafaral al-Tayyar. The bulletin said word of his plans was based on information obtained from recently captured al-Qaida operatives.
The United States has information indicating he may be involved in al-Qaida and may pose an imminent threat to U.S. interests at home or overseas, the bulletin said.
The officials who spoke with NBC News said el-Shukrijumah was known to have been in the United States since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, living for a time in Miami. His whereabouts now are not known.
The officials said they had no specific information about what el-Shukrijuman, nicknamed Jaafaral the Pilot, may be planning, but they said his pilot training raises the possibility that he might be planning an airborne attack similar to that carried out by Atta, the ringleader of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks.
Separately, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Thursday the government is investigating a possible threat against the Palo Verde nuclear power plant near Phoenix.
This is again a coordinated effort among federal agencies with the great support of the state and locals that were addressing a very specific piece of threat information, Ridge told reporters.
There was no immediate indication that the threat referred to by Ridge was linked to the FBIs search for al-Tayyar.
Word of the investigations of the possible threats came three days after the Homeland Security Department raised the national terrorist threat assessment to orange the second-highest level on the five-tier alert scheme out of concern that war with Iraq could trigger terrorist attacks against U.S. interests at home or abroad.

Yep, no picture on the FBI website yet. You'd think they'd have one person with basic html skills.

Why is he bothering with passports? That seems to be the hard way to do things today. And, please FBI, don't racial profile while looking for this man. Stop a least 10 litttle old white ladies first just to cover yourselves legally.

no doubt! ... they had BOLO on FOX about this guy ... and I was thinking, it's hard to BOLO without a pic of the guy ...
I'm so happy they got Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (however his name is to be spelled) ... that was very good news ... I had reposted his pic from the FBI website on FR about 8-10 weeks ago ... don't know if FR is read in Pakistan, but you never know? (JimR/JohnR should know, their server should show all countries that visit) ...
