Arlington Police and fire have blocked off Lynn Street and other streets in vicinity of Key Bridge. Looks like hundreds of police on the scene. So far no word on what precipitated the event, but this hasn't happened before.

A friend from DC just called and said an INS helicopter swooped in and landed on the bridge and all of the portestors ran away."Run away, Run away!!" LOL!

Sorry... I am having one of those "Senior Moments". I somehow completely missed the point of the thread this time... PROTESTORS! OH! DUH! (hangs head in shame for missing the whole point). I'll be better tomorrow, I'm sure. :)

Get come Chinooks and a giant auto salvage magnet...

That's funny! They've been using black Customs helicopters to patrol D.C. for several weeks now. This is the first I've heard of them taking action like that.

Just verified with my friend... he said it was a Customs Service helicopter. My mistake on the INS thing (and portestors).
My friend heard it on local radio station. I wish I could have seen that. Wonder if any jumped over the rail into the water.

Just wanted to chime in. This morning on my morning commute, I saw a guy holding a HUGE American flag standing on one of the bridges over Hwy 75. This is where you would normally see protestors, but I guess he got there first. He was a big dude that it looked like most people wouldn't mess with! So its not all freaks out there!

Great use of the 'copter. :-D

I remember 1969 when protestors tried to close all the Washington bridges and keep people from going into work. 30,000 people were locked up in Kennedy stadium that day. Fortunately, I had decided to sit that one out!

Actually, I retract that XS, be sure NOT to be driving an SUV..... drive the minivan that day........lol, cause, you know, SUV's are evil.......lol

The bridge is now clear but as I walked through Dupont Circle this morning, there were *lots* of police cars and a big TV camera and high-intensity TV lights.
No protestors, though.
They're moving about. Angelwood, let's keep our eyes on it, they may be in our neck of the woods today! BTW, I *love* Tgsltakoma's post with the big focus on family friendly as promised.

LOL....didn't hear him myself but read that Bill Press was all for the cops shooting the pool guy with a tranquilizer dart because HE was being inconvienced!!! Oh, those lefties are a hoot aren't they!

Hope you gave the FLAG guy a honk and a wave!!!

. . . and then you run away to West Palm Beach, leaving the rest of us poor souls to deal with these crazies.
I'm off today, too. Feels like a victory when these things happen to traffic and I get to watch from a distance. BTW, I think the population in the DC Metro area has more than doubled since 69.

Mariot Key Bridge - nice place to stay.
I used to stay there back in late 70's when I was working for LockMart. Couple of blocks from the train if I remember correctly. Fly into National (er,... Reagan), train to Mariott, train to GSA. Brings back good and bad memories.

Don't we have crowd control water hoses anymore? For this one I think a bulldozer and the fall to the Potomac river would work as a nice substitute.
That these morons think people will come around to their way of thinking because they make life hell for them (commuting to/from work life in this case) is incredible. They think in ways similar to that of a dictator... "If I hurt them long enough they will behave the way I want..." With thinking people the opposite happens.

I've been ranting for days that if people die because emergency vehicles can't get through (even for non-terror stuff like fires, and car wrecks) that the blood of those victims will be on the hands of EVERY ONE of those peaceniks. I totally agree, and they should be held accountable. Choices have consequences.
