Wait until O'reilly gets ahold of this one. He hates Cronkite with a passion. Brit Hume will also rip him a new one tonight. Brit loves to poke holes in the annointed.

"Cronkite....said that the smartest president he ever met was Jimmy Carter."Carter, possibly the worst POTUS in a centurty. That says it all about poor Uncle Walter.

After we take Iraq, watch him come out and claim we actually lost, just like he did with the Tet offensive in Viet Nam!

Crawl back into your hole Walter!

I've read the article twice and I can't find where he says the words "The U.S. needs to be humbled".
I did get a good chuckle out of the "Jimmy Carter is the smartest president I ever met" statement though.

"Every little country in the world that has a border conflict with another little country
they now have a great example from the United States," Cronkite, 86, said in response to a question from Drew's president, former Gov. Thomas Kean.
I guess the backlog of small country border disputes being brought b4 the UN Sec Council will no longer be a problem.

Finally someone besides me noticed it. I wish that the posters on this thread would realized that O.C. is, more than likely, lying to us. Sure, Cronkite is an excrement-head, but I dont like being lied to...JFK

If you want a full understanding of Cronkite's 'journalistic' abilites, I recommend Ken Auletta's "Three Blind Mice"
It shows Walter to have been consumed with how much facetime he'd get, and to structure the broadcast to assure the maximum
The code phrase to the producer each night was "What's my magic?" which was a query as to how long he was actually on camera
What a moron

"The Aged Celebrity"
...That is probably the closest, if not most accurate description of Walter Cronkite to date. It seems ever since George W. Bush became President, more and more of these annoying people have been crawling out of the woodwork of obscurity to put their two cents on everything from the economy to the impending war. They all act as if Bush is some idiotic little boy let loose in the Oval Office; I for one am getting sick and tired from hearing from these so-called 'sages of wisdom' who do nothing more than run verbally run this man down. Yes, I know Carter had some choice words for Clinton during the impeachment debacle, but other than that, you didn't hear a peep. Ford too had some words, but sadly they were criticisms of the Republican-lead Senate. Why don't they all just take a cue from George H.W. Bush, and keep their unwanted or needed opionions to themselves? Write a book about it, for Pete's sake!
-Regards, T.

Senility has set in with Uncle Kronkite. And someone better tell him to keep his mouth shut. As my father use to say "better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Stalin's name for people like Kronkite, "Useful idiots." S/F

His remarks are out of line but I didn't find where he said "the United States should be humbled". Your headline is a little disingenuous. Suh! Guilty as charged, suh! That was my version of a tabloid headline, but I believe the article can bear the weight of my exaggeration.
To: BibChr
He's a vicious, ignoant, Christophobic man I think Walter Conkout has become a liberal icon. He's as dim but less vicious than Rather-irksome.
