My solution would have been to start cutting at the base.

I'm sure the houses occupied by the local residents did a lot to improve the area's ecology. The protesters probably all have wood burning fireplaces and drive SUV's. I remember back in 1970 being behind an oil burning smoking car on the road that had an ecology sticker on the back window.

Ironic aint it....that these morons are heading us towards communism (or at the very least massive socialism) and when the other shoe drops, government controls all the land and no longer needs to listen to us, people like her will be shot out of trees without fanfare nor delay, the land raped, and there will be no recourse. Silly little bird.

Every time I read about these pathetic people I am further amazed that they cannot find any meaningful purpose in life other than to protect a tree.

Americans are desperate for a cause worthy of their life's devotion, and protecting a tree isn't it.

The activists claim aggressive logging has filled riverbeds with silt, damaging the watershed and endangering local residents.

And just who would those "local residents" be? -other than, of course, the tree sitters.

Rod Coronado of Earth First, an organizer of the protest, blamed Pacific Lumber for endangering the tree-sitters.

Only in Rod Coronado's delusional mind. Talk about stupid! The tree-sitters trespass to perilously climb trees. The put themselves in danger. Amazing how readily Rod Coronado's words immediately discredit him.

Set up a speaker system and play James Dobson and Billy Graham tapes 24-7 on high-gain. No climbers would be necessary.

Surprise, surprise! Look what I found on another thread farmfriend posted -- BTW, nice catch ff: PETA tells activists to give the FBI the cold shoulder

"It seems that PETA was involved in the multi-million-dollar arson at Michigan State University that resulted in a 57-month prison term for Animal Liberation Front bomber Rodney Coronado. At Coronado's sentencing hearing, U.S. Attorney Michael Dettmer said that Newkirk arranged ahead of time to have Coronado send her a pair of FedEx packages from Michigan -- one on the day before he burned down an MSU research lab, and the other afterward [see pages 8 and 9 of the official court record]."
