San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks
A popular country music group has some San Antonians turning off their radios. A KJ 97 DJ pulled the plug on the trio's songs after lead singer Natalie Maines made a negative comment about President Bush.
The trio is on tour overseas, but they're causing quite a stir back here at home.
"Natalie Maines before a concert audience in London, England said, and I quote, âJust so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas,â" said Keith Montgomery with KJ 97.
The comments prompted Montgomery to pull the Chicks music off the air Thursday
"I would say the reaction is 99 percent in favor of what I have done," said Montgomery.
Texans aren't the only ones upset about Maine's comments. Reaction from all over the country caused the group on Thursday to post an explanation of their stance. The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
But in the process of putting their opinion out there, they're losing support. Angry phone calls flooded radio stations across the country Thursday, calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide." The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July.
Montgomery says, after hearing from more listeners, he'll decide on Friday whether to play their music on his show.

The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July. If their promoters don't cancel them before then, I predict a very cool reception and poor turnout.

The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July. One can only imagine the reception they will receive in San Antonio. I would venture a 'guess' would be low attendance, and lots of boo-ing. I for one, have no intention of attending.

While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost." Nothing? Nothing? Imagine this.
You're on the 80th floor of a skyscraper minding your own business, doing your job. You look out the window and there's a 757 coming straight at you at 500 mph.
Or maybe this.
You're on the 90th floor of a skyscraper looking out the window. Ten floors below you are engulfed in flames. You can't get out by the elevator. You can't escape down the stairs. You're standing at this window which has been blown out by heat because it's the coolest spot on your floor and the only place you can breathe. A body falls past because someone above you has decided it would be better to jump than wait for the fire.
I think you have a lousy imagination.
Shalom.

A major Houston clear channel station just pulled them as well. (I don't remember the call letters, it was announced on 950 KPRC which is a talk radio station that has been reaming the chicks.)

Doh! I just thought of something (after seeing a Hold Muh Beer thread): What's the last thing you hear a redneck country music singer say? "Hold muh guitar and listen to this."

You know, the two outer "chicks", the violin player and the Dobro player, have the real talent anyway. They're "pickers", and were the ones who said they won't discuss politics. It's only Maines who shot her mouth off, and as an acoustic guitar playing singer, is the easiet to replace of the three.
Hell, there's 20 ladies they could plug in their right now.
I think Maines is history.

I don't think it's Houston's KILT 100.3 FM because they're run by Infinity Broadcasting.

And the "hits" just keep coming. This gets better and better by the hour! I just love it! (Me thinks the Dixie Tarts are history.)

I think the Dixie Cups are now done. They show no respect or affection for their main market.

Yep. Stick a fork in 'em.....They're done.

It's posts like yours that remind me just why I come to FreeRepublic in the first place! Most Excellent.

I think I'll show up at one of their scheduled concerts with a sign that reads:
"I'd Burn My Tickets To This Concert...
But I Didn't Waste The $$$ on Blix's Chix"
