Support Brittain
Posted on 03/13/2003 3:36:24 PM PST by Violette
I've been thinking about the way that America has been responding to France. I can admit that I have been increasingly frustrated by their lack of support and can fully support the method in which others are dealing with this situation.
But I can't help but think about how little we have done as a people to support Brittain's position. I recently read an article that Tony Blair is receiving support from only 19% of his country. I am of the opinion that we need to equal our support for Brittain to our disdain for France.
How can we do this? Short of displaying the Brittish flag, I cannot think of any other way of showing support. Can anyone here contribute in terms of products or services that England provides the US? Has anyone in Congress found a creative way to show Brittain how much we appreciate them? I, for one, would love to see America display appreciation for their support.
Anyone know where I can buy and English flag?

I love the Brits slam to death, but I'm NOT going to start drinking hot tea with milk in it.

(Mr. President, we must not allow a mine-shaft gap!)

I would request the following:
- We're experiencing a drop off in tourists from the Continent; if American tourists filled the gap, we'd be better off.
- Buy British. I don't have a list of British companies on me at the moment, but I feel certain that there are many ways in which your shopping preferences can be turned to the British from the French and Germans.
- Lobby the US Government; the idea of allowing Britain to join NAFTA has been bandied about in Washington for years. Political pressure could see that turn into a genuine offer.
And of course, just pray for Blair and the safe return of our troops.
Regards, Ivan

We don't like NAFTA why would we do that to a friend?

I am wondering, MadIvan, if you know what percent of Britain's population is Muslim?
There was a report on our evening news that at least 10%, and maybe more of France's population is Muslim. I have no clue about Germany, but can't help but wonder if just plain fear isn't behind the anti-war sentiment there.
Could you help to fill me in as to what the possible motives for failing Brtish support for Blair's pursuit of disarming and removing Saddam is?

Fortnum and Masons is sold all over the country. Could have a "new form" tea party.
To: jacquej
I can answer that right off the bat. We have approximately 1.5 million Muslims out of a population of approximately 60 million British.
As for support "failing". You are basing this on polls - and we have a lot of different polls that say a lot of different things. For example, many people here have digital television. Sky News has polls from time to time in which you can vote with your remote (only once, so no "Chicago" voting is possible). These show overwhelming support for Blair and the war. The institutional polls here are no more reliable than yours, I fear.

I could crank call parliment or something but the hotel would get more money than the british telco. The only pubs 'round here are irish. The British Metal invasion was years ago and I believe all the labels were American anyway. Ummmmmmm.....ok I give. I like the idea but need some help.

I found a web site that lists both wholesalers and retailers of British goods. It is quite extensive, and there are links for on-line shopping for many of them. Anyone considering a purchase should take a look at this site:
