(AgapePress) - A Texas school district will permit a self-proclaimed lesbian student to start a so-called, "gay-straight club" at her Houston high school.

The Klein Independent School District has settled a federal lawsuit in a deal that will allow the club to be established, and upholds a new district policy that requires written parental permission for students to participate. This action comes after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit against the district earlier this year on behalf of 17-year-old Marla Dukler.

The ACLU argued Klein Independent School District's policy for extra-curricular clubs violated the First Amendment and Equal Access Act.

However, a group of parents says the district's policy was fine as it was. Jeff Lovette, of Concerned Parents of Klein, says his group is extremely disappointed with the settlement, and believes the school district has bowed down to the ACLU based on the nationwide publicity it receives.

"Our after-school club policy," Lovette says, "states that after-school clubs will not promote any type of sexual activity -- any type of activity -- that is a danger to health or a health risk." He also said, "[A club] will not promote any criminal activity. As far as I know -- and I'm pretty positive -- until June when the next legislature meets, sodomy is still illegal in the state of Texas."

The Klein district superintendent says the purpose of the new club will be to "teach tolerance." But Lovette says that can be achieved without the homosexual club. Lovette's group is urging the district to install separate locker rooms and bathrooms for homosexual students.

"If they just teach 'tolerance' and not preach gay lifestyle, gay sex, and they are not handing out things to prevent STD's such as condoms or literature, I don't see how we are going to fight them," Lovette said.

"If they do cross the line in any way," Lovette says, "I know they are going to be monitored. Right now, our fight is trying to find out who we are going to have in there to monitor them."

Thank you! My feelings exactly. "Liberals" who protest Christian/Conservative clubs are no different from these "conservatives" protesting the
homosexual club. These people have no place in America and should go to some other country more suited to their ideals (Iraq or Afghanistan).

These people all adore "Freedom": the freedom to not be offended. As far as I know, this is not guaranteed by the constitution. Neither is the freedom to force everyone to like the same genitalia that you do. These so-called "Christians" are so obsessed with genitalia, maybe they should get jobs doing body-piercing or designing pleasure devices. Sex seems to be all these "pure" people think about.

I can understand not wanting tax dollars to be spent on this. I agree. There are many things my tax dollars go towards that I don't agree with. But if you allow one, you must allow all. I fully support the disbanding of ALL extra-curricular clubs, as some heteros have done in the past to protect themselves from... well, from their own dirty minds.

Using your logic then we should support the "Young Drug Users Club", "Sex with Adults Club", and the "Drinking Responsibly Club" since who are we to judge a behavior to be bad. School is a place where you are supposed to "learn" - just like 2+2=5 is wrong - homosexuality is wrong - creating clubs and having protests will never make 2+2=5.

Well I suppose they could try, but the ACLU will make every effort to stop that club. They should start a Christianity group, that should get the ACLU's panties in a bunch.
