Six House Democrats Say Virginia Lawmaker Should Not Seek Re-Election The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Six Democratic House members called on Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., not to seek re-election in 2004 in the wake of controversial comments about Jews and the possibility of war with Iraq. Moran's comments are "not merely wrong, offensive and ignorant," the six, all Jewish lawmakers, wrote in a letter Wednesday, "They are grossly irresponsible, and were given at a sensitive time when inflammatory comments - regardless of outrageous factual flaws - can unleash unintended and dangerous consequences."
Moran's office had no immediate comment.
The Virginia lawmaker sparked a controversy several days ago when he said, "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq we would not be doing this. ... The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should."
Moran apologized for his comments on Tuesday. He said he framed his comments as he did because he was responding to a questioner who said she was Jewish. "I regret doing that," he said.
In a letter to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, the six House Democrats said that Moran's comments "violate the basic standards we hold ourselves to as Democrats."
"We hope that as Jim reflects on his actions, he will decide not to seek re-election to the House of Representatives. Should he seek re-election in 2004, however, we cannot and will not support his candidacy."
The letter was signed by Reps. Henry Waxman and Tom Lantos of California, Martin Frost of Texas, Sander M. Levin of Michigan, Benjamin Cardin of Maryland and Nita M. Lowey of New York.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Dems would not be calling for him to step down if this district were even remotely competitive. You're probably right. Virginia is down to two majority RAT districts. That's not bad out of 11 and considering all the federal gubmint employees that live in that district.

Moran is a corrupt, violent, wife-beating thug. There were a zillion ways over the years he showed himself unfit for office and the Democrats always covered up for him. It'll be interesting to see if this finally pushed it over the edge, but so far he's not getting anything like the coverage Lott got.

Why don't we nominate Darrell Green to run aganist Moran?

What I am amazed about is that none of the major news channels are covering this. Now yeah maybe there will be a mention here and there but when Trent Lott was indited for what something he didn't even implie it was on 24/7. Even the "Great" Fox News isn't on this as they should.

Where is Joey LIEberman - the "Conscience" of the senate?
They have a new "Conscience" now, but the name escapes me. <<
According to the media, it's either Robert "KKK" Byrd or John "Keating 5" McCain... they can't make up there mind.

That's Ok with us. The GOP could use another Republican in the House.
(And it will happen!)

controversial comments about Jews He should step down.
Trent Lott showed great honor by doing so, even though the democrats "divined" his intentions. The intentions of this man were blatantly obvious. He hates the Jew.

I find it VERY fascinating that the only Dems with the courage to really speak out on this are themselves Jewish. Why are the other 200-plus RATS so strangely quiet on this antisemitism in their midst? They are probably listening to Hillary! explain that this is a plot by the F------ Jew B------- and that it, too, shall pass.

Didn't you know that the Rats are all anti-Semites?
Why do the majority of Jew vote demoncraptic? Maybe they won't any more, they need to wake up and vote for the folks that actually support them, the Republicans support Isreal and allways have. WAKE UP JEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good points. I'd like to know what they said publicly about Sen. Lott.
I just find it extremely hypocritical that there isn't the FIRESTORM that the Dems created with regard to Sen. Lott.
That is the problem with their rantings over Sen. Lotts statements. Now they must live up to the HIGH bar they set.
Fair is fair.. ya know?

Nah!!! The St. Patrick's Day war will obliterate everything else for a minimum of three months. All else will be forgotten. In fact, if it takes much longer to start, it will begin to obliterate the presidential primary season, (which this year will be a 5 month commercial for the victorious Dem). These ceaseless UN delays could play right into Bush's hands on the domestic political campaign front. If the offensive is still going...it's hard to buy political ad time if every network is running NO commercials like they did for 6 weeks after 9/11/01.

It was the democrat party that condoned lynchings of Jews and legal proscriptions against "Hebrews." It has always been a source of amazement why Jews support the rats.

Real shocker here; Tom Lantos, Henry Waxman and co. are against free speech. Jim Moran is indeed a despicable guy, and a joke as a public official, but these remarks may have been the only time he's ever uttered the truth in his political career. I realize there are few left here who will agree with me-or refrain from attacking me for saying so-but whatever your feelings about the Middle East, you can't deny the influence Israel is wielding on the Iraqi issue.
To: Sub-Driver
Since he is a democrat, the media won't give this any coverage until they can figure out a way to call him a conservative.

Thanks for the info.
Even if his district is majority 'rat I still can't understand why anyone would support him. How do those suburban soccer moms justify voting for a wife beater?
People are stupid. It has to be the reason why people like Moran and any Kennedy stay in office.
