Liberal Oregon Surprises; Portland, Salem, Pendleton Kill Anti-war Resolutions
March 8, 2003
With the defeat of the anti-war resolution brought on by local peace activists at the Pendleton, OR city council last week, three Oregon cities have so far rejected similar proposals. Pendleton joined Portland and Salem, both of which turned down such resolutions by identical 2-1 margins.
Given Oregon's traditionally liberal image, and the vocal protests conducted by anti-war activists over the past several weeks, this must come as a major setback to groups who are trying to use these symbolic votes in their campaign against the impending war on Iraq.
All three city councils gave the same reason for voting the resolution down, saying it is not the job of local councils to vote on matters of national policy.

In Salem, the last election resulted in a business oriented councel and mayor. The prior mayor was so far to the left that a backlash occurred.

A few victories in this sickening sea of liberalism which is Oregon. Living here can be depressing. While the physical beauty of Oregon is tops, the overwhelming lack of common sense among the population is difficult to live in. 44 years and counting, watching Oregon self destruct-- it is sad. Of course most of the libs are in the Willamette Valley and NW corner of the state. Eastern Oregon and rural Oregon is much more conservative, so there is hope, slight, but it is there none the less.

Good news!
The city councils may be responding to a lot of people like me saying, "I will not visit your city any more. You need your tourist $'s from the Islamofacists not Americans."
I have been personally boycotting Portland since the Katz took over.

Thanks!
You know my stand against visiting Portland. That goes back to Katz's enviral stands and the city's donations to the enviral nazis of Oregon.
Then, when she refused to help John Ashcroft in his attempts to flush out the Islamofacists living in Portland a few months after 9/11, she and Portland became even more of a No Enter Area for me.

Keen Grasp of The Obvious Alert!
Boy, I wish our Austin city council could figure that out too!
