This report is sooo phony that even the French won't be able to hide behind it I wouldn't bet on that. They know they have the votes to prevent the Security Council from acting. They've already got their response to the report crafted. The French believe they have the winning hand in this venue and they're going to call to show cards. They're going to try to kill this attack once and for all, and if Bush goes anyway, then they're going to raise hell (via violent protests) around the world. The French are playing for keeps, for influence in the 21st Century.
God Help Us All.

an incredible amount of patience You got that right. And then you have people slamming those who don't quite have as much as Job... (e.g. when Rumsfeld chastised the French and Germans for their reluctance.).

Ok, after listening to all this rambling... I've decided to become an inspector for the UN. I have absolutely no clue how to do this job, have no sense of direction, would not know a nuclear weapon if it bit me in the butt, have no second language skills, and to top it off, I'd probably look stupid in their uniforms. I hope Colin Powell goes in and wipes the floor with these wienies.

Blix's strategy of giving Blix "time tables/deadlines" works like a charm. Keep it going.

How about a one post summary so far?Blix and El Baradei acknowledge Iraq has not been cooperative until lately (THEY say). They contend more inspections and pressure will keep Iraq in check.
Germany up. Condemns Iraq's behavior. Says the reports just presented show Iraq has not met UN demands (yet, he added). Says now there is real progress, and Iraq is destroying the missiles. He says this shows peaceful disarmament is possible and can avoid war and Blix's approach works.
Did ANY of these people hear Powell say the other day missile production continues??? I eagerly await Colin Powell's statement.

Germany is an appeaser to dictators -- their own people never stood up to Hitler but considered him their savior in conquering the world.
Less than impressed! How does he know the interviews are not monitored or recorded.
Britain needs to wake up and keep the current resolution and no new one!

What happened to IMMEDIATE and COMPLETE compliance? A very good question, and one that I have not yet heard asked by any media or US representative. The UN, once again, has proven itself irrelevant. I see no problem being solved. If we allow the UN to dictate action regarding Iraq, Saddam will be allowed to continue playing the game he has played for the past 12 years, continue developing WMD's, and continue oppressing the people of Iraq.
This whole dance in the UN is pointless. Saddam is a murderer and needs to be taken out.

08:23 PST (AP) -- It was ElBaradei's strongest statement in support of Iraqi cooperation.
"In the past three weeks, possibly as a result of ever-increasing pressure by the international community, Iraq has been forthcoming in its cooperation," ElBaradei said. "I do hope that Iraq will continue to expand the scope and accelerate the pace of its cooperation."
He reported again that in the area of nuclear weapons, inspections were moving forward.
"After three months of intrusive inspections, we have to date found no evidence or plausible indication of the revival of a nuclear weapons program in Iraq."
To: carton253
Well, Germany is excited... Iraq is cooperating. Yeah; with implementing the anti-Israeli resolutions.

Inspectors need to be step up with deadlines.
To: steveegg
What ticks me is that none of these guys address just how viable it is for 250,000 troops to sit in theater for months to exact pressure on Saddam to continue to offer up some minimal semblance of cooperation (which semblance has yet to allow any unattended and recorded interviews). Do these guys really think any further progress will be made if the troops exit?

Now Germany wants a detailed schedule drawn up, to attempt to hogtie the U.S., no doubt.
Not gonna happen.

Germany sees no need for a second resolution... 1441 is showing viable results.
