How Should FR handle the Outbreak of War in Iraq? (Screaming Vanity)

Folks, today Tommy Franks had his Last Sit-Down with the President.
He's headed off to Qatar. For me, that's a dead giveaway that the "go" order probably has already been given, and that it's up to Franks to choose the date and time.
So, assuming that D-Day is going to come as a bolt out of the blue, how are we going to handle this thing?
Naturally, we can anticipate a huge load on the servers during the opening hours of the war, which will be punctuated by some poor correspondent on the telly with Dan Rather. He'll be talking with Dan, and all of a sudden the skies will light up around that poor talking head and we'll know that the war is on.
Consequently, we don't want the whole damn board to go down or have long hang times due to heavy use. In addition, we'll be having lots of newbies signing up, including the Usual Suspects: the DU Trolls. I would also add that one would hope that J and J Robinson have tended to the firewalls. This place pisses a lot of people off, especially overseas, and some of our DU or Jihadi friends might want to hack into us. It would be real disappointing to have to go over to the Yahoo! site with its slow reload times.
How about threads? Will there be a "LIVE" thread, with ongoing "color" commentary by the local bulletheads? Or should we divide it by Northern Front, Southern Front, or Air/Ground/Naval/Special Forces threads? Any linkups with our friends over at FreeBrittania and FreeDominion?
Anyhoo, please understand that I'm throwing this out now in the hopes that some of us, especially the Admin Mods, will do something in advance of H-Hour to bring Order out of Chaos.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

By the way, how do you get to the Yahoo backup site? I have a feeling we'll be using it quite a bit over the next few days...

If everyone avoids taking up band width, only posts what needs to be posted in the early hours it will help. If 800 of us all post our feelings, outrage, pics, yadda yadda, we will be down before the first marine gets in. Restraint, one of our weaknesses, will be needed.

Just pray that no one picks that day to announce that Laci Peterson is still dead.

Well, we could start by doing without your cartoon hero on every post.....

The outbreak of the war should be handled in the same way as the annoucement of the victory: with prayer.

Heck, maybe demand on the server will drop. Most of us will be scanning TV for a view of the fireworks.

Honestly?
I don't think it's gonna be an issue because it's going to begin with an air campaign.
Not much to tell there.. We are in Iraq and we are dropping bombs.
That's kinda going to be it for a while, isn't it?

Good points, all. On the other hand, people will need to vent. Maybe a thread just for that--on the "general/chat" side of the forum, and one on the news side for news only?
