Some 50 other Swedish anti-war human shield activists who had travelled to Iraq began to leave on Monday, saying they had wanted to protect hospitals and schools but had been forced out to refineries, power plants and water works.

This says it all.

Where did they think they were going?

"We painted a huge sign on the roof saying human shields, so when any planes bombed the target, they'd see they were killing us -- Englishmen and Finns and Turks".

I hope they write large enough for the planes to see from 30 000 feet up, and/or the missles can read the signs.

This story out of the Florida-Times Union,entitled.. IRAQ: Glamour fades, I found funny:

"The activists also counted on being joined by thousands of protesters from all over the world. But the big numbers never materialized, and Iraq has limited the sites they can visit.

Some activists rightfully questioned whether accepting accommodations, transportation and other perks from Iraq amounted to supporting the Iraqi dictator more than peace.

It apparently only dawned on some of the activists that, rather than human shields, they had become human pawns in the Saddam Hussein public relations game.

What did you do in the war, Daddy?

"I was a human shield, son -- until the shooting started. Then I got the hell out of there. I may be liberal but I'm not crazy."

They must have realized they had more feedoms in their own homelands than in Iraq. heeheheeee

So the judas goat which encouraged other humans shields to sign up is now bravely running away. What about the other shields not in the 'bus' group? Aren't you going to tell them to leave too? Or are you just taking care of us and our own?

Just think of how much terrorism they have been supporting, fueling those buses. They said that if the buses broke down, it would be the doing of the CIA. I tend to think that it is the doing of ZsaZsa Huffington.

"I had promised my wife I would get the buses home," he said. "If I don't get them home, we're absolutely stuck."

What a jackass! I hope he's penniless when this is all done.

But he said that although he stayed on as a shield for a week, he had no intention of staying in Baghdad for the duration of a war.

Not very committed to the cause is he?

Where did they think they were going?

"They must have been in a hurry to get to a funeral."

(Classic line from Sean Connery in a Bond movie...uttered in a perfect dead-pan
to some by-standers...wondering where the bad guys were headed...until 007 ran them off
the road.)

Perhaps they could sell their silly bongo drums, crack pipes and roach clips for the fare home..

The women were far too ugly and unclean to sell their bodies...

I ask in all seriousness, do these folks ... hmm ... like, have families, jobs, pets, appointments, obligations? You know, the things ordinary to a human life? If so, I have to wonder (with loads of sick humour) the conversations that must've taken place prior to departure.

"Sorry, Junior. Mommy/Daddy loves you very much, but I love more the idea of getting my name in the news for being an idiot. You understand, you're very special to my heart and all, buttttt..." ???

"Sorry, boss, but as I see there's no room for advancement within this organization..."

They were driven TO Beirut, why can't they be driven back? What maroons!

We've got a lot of "smart bombs" but I haven't heard they we have any that can read.

"I had promised my wife I would get the buses home," he said. "If I don't get them home, we're absolutely stuck."

Does he perhaps have Sean Penn's phone number?

Maybe they can take a look around Lebanon while they are there and see the good works that the UN and peace have produced there.
