The First Bush saddled us with an exeuctive order which elminated the importation of "assault weapons". That, and his recanting on his no new taxes pledge doomed his relection chances.

W seems to have learned from his father's mistakes regarding Iraq...I hope that Rove et. al are advising him straight on this one, too.

Also note Feinswine's nose under the tent approach. She doesn't want just an extension, she wants an expansion. In short, she wants them all. And if she's not careful, she'll trigger something she hasn't the foggiest notion is possible. Someone needs to get that woman a copy of Unintended Consqeunces.

I have been informing my reps, and encouraging others to do the same, that if the AWB does not sunset, I will no longer vote Republican. I will completely withdraw myself from concern about any political issue or party, go underground and just do what the hell I please. Hell, I'll probably live a lot longer without all the stress. I've been fighting my entire adult life -nearly 30 years- on this issue and I'm rather tired of getting stabbed in the back by Republicans when they have the chance to make things right and don't. The days of getting the pro-gun vote to then just sit back and do nothing are over. We are demanding payment in full.

Would it do any good if we all email Ashcroft now, saying NO! to the AW law in 2004? Maybe if he and GW know how much support is out here to end the stupid ban, he can start easing down that prickly path toward just letting it sunset while the democrats howl and whine. It's bad enough that the dems don't have a credible presidential candidate and don't have much of a plan for anything else, but to sunset the AW law AND have the SC rule favorably on the 2nd amendment, now THAT would be one huge party in 2004!

RINO's don't care about freedom.

RINO's don't care about rights.

RINO's care only for power, and advancing themselves. Instead of fighting for what's right, and possibly suffering (political) injuries, Bush and Rove will stick their fingers in the air to feel which way the wind blows. And so they will decide YOUR rights, as mere bargaining chips in the poker game of power.

And those of you who swear you'll again never vote for Bush if he signs this, please stop kidding yourselves. Faced with the alternative of a Democrat, most of you will get right back up and vote for those who smack you around and kick dirt in your face.

You're much like abused wives, who keep coming back for more. You have no control over your leaders, they control you. They tell you what you want, not the other way around. Think not? I predict the day after Bush renews the ban, FR will be filled with people saying it's a good thing, and attacking anyone who says otherwise. It's the personality, the party you adhere to, and liberty is way down the list.

Does my coming right out and saying this anger you? I hope so. Maybe it will upset you enough to PROVE ME WRONG.

The Republicans could work this issue rather elegantly by simply letting the Dems continue to filibuster judicial nominee after judicial nominee, with each successive nominee getting more conservative than the prior one.

Let it all drag on until September, then tell the Dems: so sorry, there's no time left in the legislative calendar to consider the AW Ban -- we're mandated to work on the budget now.

"I am quite familiar with firearms," Feinstein said. "I became mayor as a product of assassination. "

Is she admitting something here?

Actually ... she is admitting something. She is one of the few people in California who has a concealed carry permit. She has bodyguards and a concealed carry permit, but doesn't was the "little people" to have the same.

Fact is that Harvey Milk and Mayor Mosconi (?sp) were not killed by a drum fed AK/SKS like the one that Feinstein is holding in the picture. Milk and Mosconi were killed by a former policeman and a city councilman, Dan White, who was just the kind of "Public Servant" that automatically gets a CCW (like DiFi). White used revolvers and pistols. White claimed he was "bombed" on "Twinkies".

The Second Amendment is about more than just hunting. It is also about more than just "Assault Rifles".

It is not the only mistake Bush could make that would lose my vote, but it is a big one. And I am still stuck in Kalifornia where state law makes it almost irrelevant.

At the very least, I will stock up on normal-capacity magazines in Nevada during what might be a lull in anti-gun government terror. They ought to cost about fifty cents a piece in moderate quantities.

No. You aren't wrong. Go back through the archives and see how many Freepers were supporting all those NRA backed Project Exhile laws. At the time, a few of us thought it was the height of stupidity to WANT the government to enforce 20,000 un-Constitutional gun laws.

Now this.

I'm a law abiding citizen. Honorably Discharged from six years in the Marines. I've never had so much as a parking ticket. I've worked very hard, to get where I am by playing by the rules.

I am sick and tired of my government treating me like a g#dd@mn criminal.

GWB abandoned the US citizens on the issue of securing our borders.

If he abandons legal firearms owners on this issue, count me as one who will vote for the worst of the worst.....a lefty Dumacrat, just to bring "the system" down, grinding to a halt under it's own bloat, just like California.

We might as well trash the same government that's selling us out.

There is no "fixing" it.

Time to start anew.

Nope. I will register as a Libertarian on that day.

Actually this is strong enough to make me go hit the lever for Hillary and Co. JUST TO PRECIPITATE the crisis and get it over with.

Big time BUMP to that.

I have been very carefully warning my state representatives, and I even had the opportunity to make the same kind of statement to a FL Supreme Court justice.

They think citizens literally fighting back will never happen, even at the point of door to door confiscation. They think that we are children who are in need of constant direction to just live our lives.

The gun-grabbers are dead wrong. There are thousands of them, but there are millions of us, and we have the guns.

Thank you for your military service. It is appreciated.

I am sick and tired of my government treating me like a g#dd@mn criminal.

Any ideas or plans to change that? The status quo doesn't seem to be working.

I would suggest a bitter fight in the primaries, but the outcomes of those are determined behind closed doors well in advance. The primaries are now just an infomercial.

That leaves withholding your vote, and letting a Rat win. I fear a loss at the polls may be the only language RINO's speak. Can you stomach that?

If we could all get together on this issue, there are about 75 to 80 million gun owners in the US.

That is, as they say, a lot of votes.

Bush had best be very, very careful on how he handles this one, because there will be 75 to 80 million of us watching!

Say what? This better not be true.

Sorry, but it IS true. I personally heard him promise to extend the clearly unconstitutional AW ban in a speech he made during the primary campaign. It was made somewhere in the midwest, possibly Iowa, but can't remember for sure. My heart sank into my boots when I heard him say it because I knew he had already been annointed for the job. Until then I had been mislead to believe he was a 2nd amendment supporter. Wrong.

The only hope for sunsetting the ban is to put pressure on our congresscritters to let it die. Bush will sign the extension bill if it gets to his desk, no doubt about it.
Personally, I'm not at all hopeful.

I understand your frustration, but I think voting for a Rat may be the worst thing we could do. They'll take it as an endorsement of their socialism, and a mandate to commit evil.

Better to fight in the primary (for what that's worth) and withhold campaign work/money donations. Maybe fund the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) instead and try to reform the GOP from the inside.

I'll come right out and admit I'm a Libertarian, and if you'd rather vote for us, that's fine with me. But I don't really care if you do, please just don't vote for anyone who renews the ban. Voting Constitution Party or Natural Law Party, or not voting at all are all viable ways to make your objections not just known but felt.

The worst thing you could do is give your support to Bush if he renews the ban. Basically, he will learn the lesson that he can sell you out and still get what he needs from you. At that point your influence over him will be non-existant.
