Mansoor Ijaz tells Fox & Friends, "Capture of OBL Only Days or HOURS Away"
Fox and Friends ^ | 3/5/03 | LS

Posted on 03/05/2003 4:12:55 AM PST by LS

Steve Doocey said on Fox this morning that he had just gotten off the phone with Mansoor Ijaz, the Pakistani-born American who has excellent connections to Pakistan, and that Ijaz said that the info they are extracting from the Sheik means that we are days, if not "hours," away from capturing OBL. They have traced his movements; they know where his wives & some kids are (Iran, where they are being "protected"), and think OBL even slipped out of the country and went to Bali prior to that bombing, traveling mostly by water.

Further, last night on O'Reilly, Ijaz also said that he has no doubt that we are using "whatever means necessary" to extract info from the Sheik. O'Reilly said "including torture?" Ijaz said, "Yes."

Yeah, I was in your camp, too, until it was widely reported that material from the raid revealed OBL was in recent communication with Sheikh.

I wish I could remember exactly who said this but the other day I was watching a news channel (probably Fox since that is mainly the channel I watch) and one of the guests said that his information from sources he had involved in the interrogation of this person was that he was not very forthcoming with info and it was very slow getting info out of him. Further, that he was changing his stories throughout the interrogation process. While they might not be trained to withstand interrogation, they seem to be very adept in lying and giving out false information. All you have to do is look back on the various false info that has been obtained from the interrogations at GITMO and other captured terrorists.

Also, on another subject, just yesterday a former interrogator was being interviewed and he said that physical torture is not the best method of interrogating because the captive will almost always say whatever you want them to say eventually but that does not necessarily mean it is the truth.

ijaz is a good guy and all, but i sometimes suspect that in his enthusiasm for the enterprise he sometimes says just a little more than he knows. here's hoping that this is in no measure colored by wishful thinking.

Sheikh was a big fish, too, and he didn't have much protection. I'm not convinced at all that OBL is well-protected.

This may deserve another thread, but my question is "Should we take him alive?"

I cannot think of anything more revolting than to have another "OJ" bin Laden trial. It would be the biggest circus in the history of man. We need him in one piece..... DEAD!

I think Ijaz has brought a wealth of information to the front burner. Obviously, I have no way of verifying his statements. Yesterday, swarthyguy and habaes corpussel provided a few specifics that may answer your question.

They have traced his movements; they know where his wives & some kids are (Iran, where they are being "protected")

This is an interesting little tidbit here. Iran's appears to have been silently helping out Al Qaeda for some time. That will be a useful card to play later. I imagine we know a lot more about Iran than we're discussing, but we'll drop a dime on them in due time.

As far as Bin Hidin, if this information has made it out to the press, then we're trying to flush him out of his hole. Usama has a pretty sizable entourage, and if they know rougly where he is, they stand a good chance of detecting his movement. Run, Usama, run!!

I'm not convinced at all that OBL is well-protected.

If he doesn't sleep with the worms he would have had to lose his big entourage and go incognito with only a few people.

*Note: There has been some contradictory information as to the status of this individual. Abu Mohammed al-Masri is a nom de guerre, hence one should not confuse him with the al-Qaeda functionary of the same name who was recently killed in Algeria working with the GSPC. Mossad reportedly had intelligence that al-Masri might have been one of the suicide bombers involved in the al-Qaeda attack in Mombasa, but near as I can tell the findings were not corroborated

**Note: Per Knight Ridder, he may have been captured along with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. If this is indeed true it would be exceedingly good news.

Awesome cartoon. :))

The capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed has given me new hope that we will eventually catch Bin Laden.

It will happen just like Mohammed. It will be some low-level "grunt" or an observant bystander who gives him up. Now that the tide has turned dramatically, someone will be emboldened to claim the winning lottery ticket. Once bin Laden is captured, the good doctor will follow quickly, and al Qaeda will cease to exist...

This is going to be an interesting week in world history, methinks...

has proven to be substantial. He is way out on a limb with
this statement though. I hope he is right.

Geetings xJones, FReepers, et al:

We'll eat crow together. No matter what happens, GWB wins!

No body, no martyr. There is probably more OBL DNA in the backyard bird bath from condensation nuclei, than OBL DNA left in Tora Bora.

However, just portraying OBL as alive further degrades his legacy, given his cowardly retreat from Tora Bora.

Never the less, if OBL is alive, and a pretty slim likelihood for an untreated hemodialysis dependent person; capturing OBL alive would be on the level of catching OBL eating a roast pork sandwich.

And I’ll eat that crow with Tobasco Sauce.

I dont believe physical torture will be used.

Judge Neopolitan on FNC confirmed that. It's also not the most effective way to get information.

Yes, I have likewise heard several police detectives, etc., say torture is not that effective. So we are getting mixed signals. Dunnigan, however, strongly emphasized that these people may be good at lying, but not at lying to well-trained interrogators who know how to trip them up and get info, even from a lie.
