US Closes Down Jihad Websites
The Australian ^
Posted on 03/03/2003 5:32:26 PM PST by RCW2001
March 04, 2003 US intelligence services may have already started the war in cyberspace many of the world's jihad sites are off line.
The expertise of jihadists and Osama bin Laden's supporters took the US by surprise, and their websites were influential in radicalising Muslims around the world.
Australia's support for the US has led to an increasing number of mentions.
Now out of service are such major sites as Taliban Online, which was at www.muslimthai.com on a Bangkok server, and islammemo.com, regarded as a reliable source of al-Qa'ida information.
Anti-US, anti-Christian and extremist websites such as jehad-online.com, eljihad.com, mojahedoon.com and khayma.com are all off line.
In Australia, the Islamic Youth Movement site at islam.org.au has not been updated for months.
Australian National University director of terrorism studies Clive Williams said it was "well within the realms of possibility" that the US Government had been closing the sites, but it could also be hackers at work.
Terrorism expert Rohan Gunaratna said many jihad sites were under increasing pressure from law enforcement authorities and moderate Muslim leaders.
"Increasingly governments are taking criminal justice measures to control websites that instigate hatred and solicit murder," he said. "We are seeing a new brand of terrorism that we call the loner terrorist these are Muslims who read these websites and get inspired to instigate attacks."

Good start, but I won't be satisfied until their mosques here are shut down, too.

cute, eh? Total abuse of the "title" attribute. Sadly FR doesn't allow one to use other more fun attributes like "style".

These fart-knockers are only allowed to transmit their rubbish because hacking them is just not interesting.
If anyone wanted them down, they would offer a bounty.

Jehadi website ping: (let me know if you want on or off)
Story is misleading -- The US Govt. cannot shut down any sites. It is
PREVENTED from doing so by the First Amendment of the Constitution.
It wasn't the hackers either.
The group I am working with will claim credit for many of the shutdowns. Over a hundred so far and increasing -- included are some of the sites listed above. We are not hackers -- and unlike a hack-attack the shutdowns we obtain are often permanent.
We contacted each ISP and asked them to remove the site for violation of the ISPs own legal "Terms of Service" or "Acceptable Use Policy" -- Many ISPs have policies in place restricting hate speech, murderous incitement, or illegal activity on their networks. Also, other countries, especially in Europe have laws restricting hate speech.
Most of the ISPs don't know they are even hosting a terrorist site. We just tell them, and often they are more than happy to remove the site.
Sure, the terrorist organization will just move to a different ISP -- and then we inform that ISP. -- Unlike a hack-attack the shutdowns we obtain are often permanent. We've noticed after the 4th or 5th time the terrorists just get tired of moving and stop putting the site up.
More information here:

The site is American-Jewish -- but our group is open to worldwide volunteers of Christians, Jews, Hindus and anyone opposed to terrorists use of the internet.

Keep up the good work Mr. Galt. I wish I had the computer skills to go after these folks myself. No computer skills required -- just persistence and determination. We write letters to the ISPs giving them the details of the terrorist groups and exactly what they are saying - the hate speech and incitement to murder that is taking place on their networks.
