Did you see Dan Rather on today with Howard Kurtz on Reliable Sources? I have NEVER seen a more disgusting performance in my life. Total CYA. Missed it. Was he in total "After I kissed another dictator's ass" CYA mode? LOL.

Yes, God save the fishing trawlers! My husband left the Greeneville, and missed that fiasco, thank goodness! I really do think that this is just a wild story, to get us talking. And, it is funny... I was getting tired of complaining about the UN!

This pix is obviously before pliars/blow-torch/battery-charger/MAD's

Thanks but I don't see any mention of 'traitor' in the transcript. Perhaps it was a rushed copy. I usually watch Reliable Sources but decided to catch Chris Matthews show on NBC today. Had I known Dan would be on AGAIN (he's seemingly been on every talk show imagineable)I wouldn't have watched it.

I hope you're right.
Linda Lingle doesn't need an implosion of the Hawaii tourism industry at this point.

is that a pseudonym or is that really the guy in the photos? The photo I posted was was a superimposed face of Jeremy over Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.

He doesn't look much like a suave college graduate, does he? From what I have heard, he is plenty smart. And dangerous. Surprising that he could have been caught so easily, though. Somebody must have fingered him for the reward. Go GW!

Ya gotta realize that these guys don't have a real high IQ. They hear the word nuclear(sub) and the only thing that they can attach to it, is the thought process of turning it into a bomb.

How did they intend to hijack an airliner these days? Every third-rate terrorist group in the world is p!ssed of at al-Qaeda right now, because as of 9/11 there is no way in hell anyone can hijack an airliner without meeting stiff resistance from the passengers.
Exactly. The words: "Just do as we say, and no one else will get hurt" just won't fly anymore.

I think one of the greatest ways to determine whether or not al Qaeda is up to something BIG, would be their lack of advertisement of an attack. Earlier today, someone, I don't know who, from al Qaeda said that they weren't brutally damaged by the arrest of Mohammed and they would carry on. So, later tonight, this "threat" comes out. To attract attention! Maybe they use it as a recruitment ploy... trying to see how many young men will want to be KAMIKAZIS FOR ALLAH in Hawaii. I don't know. But, I think their silence would be much more ominous than this warning.

I'm real new at this and maybe really dumb, but I don't quite get it. The Gertz article said that senior officials had learned about this specfic threat in the last two weeks, yet the level of threat went down from severe to elevated. Make sense to anyone?

"In the water, submerged, I think they could outrun an airplane, pretty easily." no submarine -- fully or partially submerged -- could "outrun" an aircraft.
Heh, I think he meant that the only way to hit a submerged sub would be for the aircraft to dive in the water and chase it -- in which case, yeah, the sub would outrun the aircraft. heh heh

It's okay to give them BAD ideas. Aircraft carriers have Phalanxes, and phalanxes of nearby ships equipped with Phalanxes, and phalanxes of planes equipped with missiles...

How did they intend to hijack an airliner these days?Who says they need an airliner? Why not a cargo jet? Why not a private jet filled with explosives?

Actually, a sub moves slower under water than above water (since the resistance of the denser H2O acts as more significant drag than a partially-submerged sub experiences), so no submarie -- fully or partially submerged -- could "outrun" an aircraft.
While I agree that no submarine could outrun an aircraft I do disagree with your statement that a submarine is faster on the surface.
A fast attack nuke of the Thresher class or later with the Albacore hull is much faster submerged than it can be on the surface. On the surface the screw caviatates at much lower rpms so that when submerged its rpms can be much greater. When submerged, a nuke as described above, can outrun ANY surface ship. :-) Been there. Done that.

They don't have to hijack an American plane.I'm much more worried about a foreign carrier being hijacked or blown up as it comes into America than any other airliner hijacking scenario. (blowing it up might not be a big deal, but they could blow it up over a city, as the plane came in to land, or something..)
