Gertz is extremely good at twisting and spinning for his own purposes and personal monetary benefit.

Intell is at least as good at "spinning" Gertz. After reading "Breakdown", I would say Intell had used him up, and spat him out a while back.

Symbionic relationship, essentially.Out of the two sides involved, it would appear Gertz claims the crown as a sometimes "usefull idiot".IMHO.

Our Los Angeles and Seawolf SSNs move faster under water than on the surface. I think it's 25 knots on the surface and 30-35 knots submerged. Same with the Ohio class SSBNs, about 20 knots surfaced, 25-30 knots submerged.

I'm just wondering... Do you ever have anything positive to say about anything? Aren't you the know-it-all guy who is almost as negative as Jim Underscore? Or am I thinking about some other "John" with initials in his name?

No, it's me. And I am a know-it-all.

I mostly have negative things to say because making positive comments bores me. I mean, I believe Clinton is a scumball, for example, but I have no interest in simply wandering around FR, and when someone posts "Clinton is a scumball!", then posting "YEAH! You're right!"

heck, I believe an AEGIS radar is actually a health hazard if it's on and you're near it

Uhm...these things aren't remote-controlled. Aegis ships have crew -- what happens to them when the Aegis system is up and running?

In the water, submerged, I think they could outrun an airplane,...

Care to restate that?

An attack on Pearl Harbor would be just the thing to rally the nation behind Bush's Iraq plans. Heck, it worked for Roosevelt, why not for Bush?

Kurtz sees the handwriting on the wall with the ratings, and knows full well it is because of the bias. He has made a concerted effort, to try to correct this, in his columns,
and on his program. He is still a lefty!!

They don't spend much time standing in front of the transmitting panels.

Anyway, point is, they don't have the radars on while they're in port, and as others have noted, much of the crew won't even be on the ship in a port like Pearl.

Nuke sub outrun an aircraft?! Huh?

Nuke subs can move darn fast when they have to, but not even close to the stall speed (the slowest speed that a plane's wing will provide adequate lift to keep it from falling) for most aircraft.

Also a sub's hull is pretty tough. I doubt even a 747 would do much damage to most nuke subs hulls. Aluminum against many inches of harden steel - my bet is on the sub.

Also Pearl has some significant defenses and a controlled airspace. There are other targets there of higher vulnerability and significance than subs. I'm sure that such an attack is not unexpected for CINCPAC. The Navy has a long memory when it comes to such attacks.
