CHICAGO -- "Our efforts will cover the expanse of Illinois," Robert Oliver, Illinois liaison for the African-American Republican Leadership Conference told reporters today. Oliver says that the AARLC will work to encourage black voters throughout the state to support Republican candidates and traditional causes.
"Blacks are beginning to see that they are promised a lot of things before an election, but they are forgotten about until the next election," he said.
The AARLC plans to sponsor voter registration drives, candidates' schools, campaign schools, grassroots activist schools, and perhaps even begin a political action committee for black conservatives who want to get involved in politics.
And the AARLC will be doing these activities "to help African-Americans learn the truth about the Republicans and encourage their participation in the Republican Party," Oliver said.

Elroy Leach has been a hardworking, reliable leader in the Illinois conservative movement for a couple years. I've only met St James, Oliver, LeFleur casually and don't know them as well. But they seem to be straight shooters. The Black precinct captains in my suburban group consider themselves part of this group although they had to work and could not attend the press conference.

Leech is a very hard working official but unfortunately he is overwhemed by the sheer volume of black Democrats in majority-black areas. We didn't even get a good campaign when a black Republican went up against a white Democrat in a majority-black district. The blacks voted for the white liberal.
Perhaps the GOP should consider recruiting black conservatives in white-majority districts. If a district is perhaps 40% black, the black-voting block might initally vote against a black Republican (who would win with white support) but they might grow to like him after he's in office for several years and does alot for the community. This could lead to them spreading the word to their friends and family that a guy with an "R" next to his name is not that bad after all. On the national level, I think the only black Republicans have come from majority-white areas.
The other failure lies with the 25 years of "Republican" governors who did not do enough to promote qualified black candidates to positions of government. Certainly, a black Republican holding an appointed office on the statewide level would do a lot to improve the party's image. The ILGOP seems more interested in recruiting liberal Republicans than recruiting black Republicans. :-(

To help our Grand Old Party reclaim its forgotten heritage, particularly on civil rights, is why I wrote (in Illinois, BTW) Back to Basics for the Republican Party, a history of the GOP from the Republican point of view. See
http://www.republicanbasics.com/ for more information about the book. Democrats would deeply resent your spreading the word.
My three presentations -- The True Heritage of our Grand Old Party, Martin Luther King and the Republican Civil Rights Legacy, and Abraham Lincoln, Republican -- have become very popular, at venues throughout the country, including the National Press Club and the Capitol Hill Club. This Saturday I will be speaking in Illinois, and on March 14 at the Delaware Republican State Committeemen Dinner.

Have you ever wondered why African-Americans abandoned the party of Abraham Lincoln, the Republican Party that fought to abolish slavery? This document provides a detailed look at how the Democrats have deceived black Americans.

Excellent. Choice is a good thing. For years African Americans have been told who to vote for by their so-called self appointed leaders who are only concerned about themselves.

This Saturday I will be speaking in IllinoisPlease post to this thread the date, time, place (if open to the public).
Do you cover the Oscar DePriest era in Illinois?
What about the Bill Robinson era and his role in building the Ogilvie coalition in Illinois?
To: spintreebob
YES! Good news. It's always driven me crazy why Blacks continue to vote for a party(Dems) that robs their children of an education in their overpriced, horrible schools. And the party that has destroyed their families with the dependence on their rotten government programs.
I hope this is the start of something big.

The left needs to be exposed for the racist white eletists they really are. They keep the poor kids in failing schools so they can keep them chained. When they grow to maturity, they pack them into housing complexes offering them food in exchange for a democrat vote.
To: concerned about politics
I used to vote Democratic until I saw the light. Chris Rock once mused "if you want to hide something from black folks put it in a book."
Interesting Observation.
