3 contaminated food items found in my last shopping trip
me

Posted on 02/26/2003 8:16:23 AM PST by volchef

Okay freepers, I need your comments. On Tuesday I went on my weekly shop at our local supermarket here in Orlando and something happened to me that has never happened before and I'm curious as to your opinions.

In a package of pudding cups I bought I found that religious prayer cards (christian) had been inserted inside. Then, I opened up a loaf of bread and found that a large black foreign object had been baked into the loaf. Today, I went to the fridge to get a soda and the next can in my pack was completely EMPTY. The can had a small puncture hole in the the bottom, but there is no evidence that the can leaked after it was put in the box.

I'm beginning to get wierded out. Has anyone else had 3 cases of food product contamination like this occur.....they all seem unrelated, but what are the chances of all 3 happening from the same shopping trip??? Also, I've contacted the bread company and returned the pudding to the store (who basically blew me off as a whacko). Should I call the soda company as well? Thanks.

Weird. I'd take a shower, to be on the safe side. Then I'd choose another market.

You are either cursed or need to find a new grocery store.

I'd move....your neighborhood grocery store must have lots of people roaming the isles with nothing better to do than attack the food.

I purchased a package of high quality bread (not the 'no name' brand), opened it up only to find mouse droppings. I returned it to the market and was reimbursed.

Things like that happen...it just happened to you 3 fold. :o/ Bummer.

I like your homepage...I was a caterer (The Spring Chicken) but now cater to my family, too. Nice to meet you.

Okay Okay, I get it......I'm not a tin foiler people I'm a mom who is just a little freaked because these are things (except for the soda) that i put in my kid's lunchbox. If she had eaten contaminated food I'd have been devastated. The sad thing is that I'm a chef and my daughter will only eat prepackaged pudding. Maybe I'll start baking my own stuff and tell her eat it don't eat at all.

Interesting!

Last week I threw out pasta sauce, jelly, and something else that the wife had recently bought, as someone had opened the jars, and the green thingies were on the inside. Was going to take them back to the market, but had no saved receipts!

Is this a chain or an independent store? If it's a chain, I'd contact the corporate headquarters, and send them a letter explaining that the Orlanda store at such-and-such address "blows off" consumer reports of product tampering.

I would also contact the bread and soda companies. Most likely , it's sheer coincidence that you got two effed up pieces of produce, but it's just barely conceivable that there is something more going on here, and this was a test run. Not necessarily terrorism, though...Remember the tylenol killings?

As for the pudding pamphlet, that's probably nothing. There are people out there who do nothing but run around sticking that stuff into magazines for sell, produce, library books...This is especially true of Jack Chick's stuff.

I'm guessing if you brought food products back to the store with "green thingies" inserted, you would not need a receipt to get a refund.

"found that a large black foreign object had been baked into the loaf"

Did it have a tail, four little feets, and some little pink ears?

Interesting. It would be a vulnerable point of attack.

One thing I like about FR is that you get unedited information that helps you build awareness about what is going on. You would have to have hundreds dead before CNN would pick up on a story like this.

Meanwhile, this ramps up the paranoia generator another notch. Not that that's a bad thing.

Remember, shiny side out!

Uhhhhh,

Did the Christian prayer cards . . .

cause you to lose sleep?

cause you to break out in hives?

cause you to lose your false teeth?

cause you to become a Dumbocrat?

cause you to lose your lunch?

I don't know if pudding manufacturers are Christian or not. Maybe they sell advertising space? Even if they are Christian and choose to package their products that way--you certainly can choose a more satanic pudding manufacturer, if you wish. Last I checked, there are many pudding brands available.

Perhaps a bit more seriously--3 items altered per your expectations does seem a bit odd. But not THAT odd. Coincidences happen in a nation with such a large population. The empty can is worth following up on for a refund I suppose.

Guess I wouldn't lose any sleep over any of it.

Nice to meet you too ;)

Like you, I think this was all incredibly bad luck. This was high quality bread as well from a large producer. I just wanted to share to see if anyone else was noticing things like this where they are.
